Stereo sounds
Looking into fitting some kind of sound system. What you lot using?? Wanted something older looking than modern. An iPod/iphone jack would be needed to.

I'm using an early becker unit - stereo and with an 8-track input loop at the back to which an ipod is easily connected without any additional electronics (plug in the 3.5mm jack it plays ipod; unplug it switches over to radio).

Thats paired with some 60s craig (pioneer) speakers with chrome grills.
Both were picked up on ebay.

Theres no way Halfords would have speakers big enough to be heard in mine. So ive never bothered the engine/exhaust is far too loud, especially when i get the louder one fitted!
I have seen two speaker units and a subwoofer mounted just above the fuel tank i.e. almost under the dash. (nice and close to the battery) Not sure about how the sound would travel though.
Got to agree, a period stereo would definitely be needed. Try a beetle breakers for original options???

a friend of mine has a karmann ghia, and we've built a little pannel in the glove box where a modern stereo lives. the dash has the original bekker unit. he then has an ipod cable hanging down onto the shelf under the dash
speakers are in the standard locations but are modern units
the other option if you just want ipod input is to fit an amp and connect an ipod directly to high level inputs. that would save having any kind of stereo in the car

Cheers for the input, interesting to hear how you lot managed to get some tunes in your cars. Been using my iPhone stuck on my dash as a quick fix.
Theres a Becker radio on eBay at the mo simon. Did you modify yours yourself.
A guy on eBay at the mo selling period radios with iPods jacks etc for just over £120 from the states. May go that way.

Ian very similar thing the guy on eBay sells, but in my opinion better . Me to on the phone, my Pc packed up and in for repair. Can't seem to get a link on the phone to see what you think.
I think I've sussed It. Have a look at his shop etc. I like the way when not switched on the display appears to be old school but when turned on it goes digital display. Plus you get the old style push in button. What do you think??
