Another newbie

Hi all,

thought it was about time I signed up as I'm now on my 3rd old porker, the first two being '12s and my current, soon to arrive, is a '73 914 in Red. Still running a FI 1.7 lump but I'm toying with swapping it out for twin carb's?

I've got a few other cars too ranging from a '53 single cab to a '56 ghia and ending in a T5 with a couple more thrown in for good measure, all VW's though...

The main reason I bought the 14 was to scratch an itch! I nearly bought one as an 18 year old in the 80's but couldn't see my insurance company being too friendly with my age added to the 2L engine and the steering wheel being on the wrong(now right) side.

I'll post one from when she was living in "Buckeye, AZ" over the weekend and a few more the later part of next week once I've collected her from the docks

Just a couple of quick photo's for now as i've just got her back from the docks today

Cleaned the windows but reckon if i start on the car my hands will freeze in the bucket before i'd hve a chance to wash the bonnet!

Only problem at the moment is there doesn't seem to be a clutch in the car! She does have a tiny bit of drive but barely enough to get her on my drive let alone onto the trailer at customs!
I know the guy i bought it from in America had the box out so i'm hoping he's not adjusted the clutch or something silly/small, if not we'll just have to whip the engine/box out again and see what's up...
Think the starter's also a little sticky from sitting so i'll have to make sure the battery gets a good charge and start her every day, even if it's just to sit inside and smaile

So far everything else works apart from the washers but that might just be empty, and i haven't checked the reversing lights!

Am thinking about removing those great big rubber buffers on the front, not really my cup of tea even if they do have a purpose

Right i'll stop going on now, comments and advice welcome(read needed!)

Just a quick update on the '14

She passed her MOT at the end of last month after having a complete new clutch set up, starter motor and rewire to UK spec light...

Could do with a little turn up as she's got a flat spot on low rev's when pulling away but that might just be from the single, twin choke webber.
Would like to go twin carb's as i prefere the look but seeing as it's hiden most of the time i'll use the money else where.

Drove her to work last night(on US plates!) and gave her a quick clean but now she really needs a good cut'n'polish, more work... Might start that tonight if it's warm enough

Also bought her a set of 4 stud gasburners whilst i was at DubFreeze, hopefully i'll find time, and wheel nuts, to fit them over the weekend. If that happens i'll post some new photo's up...

Do a search on 914world for single carb set-ups - they do cause flat spots especially when its cold.

If you are going to stick with carbs, you really need a new cam, as the stock cam is only suited to the FI. There is the option of returning to FI of course - they are supposed to run better than any carb set up...
