How to check the oil level in a '72 car

Post by Ian Donkin »

Okay, so you're all thinking run the engine to warm and check whilst running, but when I opened my '72 oil filler (the one on the outside of the car) to get at the dipstick, warm oil was being returned from the engine straight over the top of the stick - I guess this is a feature peculiar to the '72 model year.

So, in the absence of the owners manual (didn't come with the car although I will source one), can anyone tell me the correct procedure for checking the oil level?

Thanks
Ian

The dip stick is located in a tube. The returning oil shoul not be flowing down the small tube so you should get a true reading with the motor running
