The dash top looks wrong although the photo isn't that clear.

The front indicator lenses imply Italian delivered and if so it would not originally have had a hazard switch. Look out for all the other uniquely Italian parts. Horn, mirror etc

To be honest I think I want a coupe, unless anyone can tell me why I'm wrong. But you're right there's always another one round the corner so I shouldn't rush into a purchase.

I know of a (free road tax) '73 LHD 2.4E Coupe (with engine uprated to S spec) that will be up for sale next month ...

I think not, here is a 69 car with the pipe in place, it's very close to the inner edge of the chassis rail.

The dashpad has been recovered and has stitching along its front edge. I hadn't clicked that it was originally Italian, that makes me more suspicious.

If you are looking for a RHD 2.4E you will have to be patient. They do come up but not very often. As has been stated going LHD widens your market considerably (by a factor of 10). As does widening the years and models you would consider.

There were approx 106 UK RHD E in 1972 and a simlar number in 1973. Around the first 50 of those 1973 cars would fall within the 1972 tax free rules as they were produced during the later months of 1972. So you have a pot of about 150 cars produced 39 years ago to buy from.

Patience is your best bet Warren. Stick with it. It’s not easy, I appreciate that but if you can wait, one will come along.
Be patient and you’ll find a ‘72/73 car.
Be very patient and it will be a coupe.
Be very, very patient and it will be RHD.

Therefore you’re probably looking for 1 of 35 cars extant?
And some of those may be well hidden. Mine is buried beneath an ST replica....

Approx 186 UK RHD 2.4S across Coupe (135) and Targa (51) in that period so your 25% survival rate looks good. I would agree it will be lower for E and T models as the S is higher up the 'to be saved' ladder.
