True , it's an "improvement" though and that's what's great about having a look-a-like/rep/etc etc . Looks the same but you can make it better and to your own taste . :)

The purists won't agree but i just give them a wave as i overtake !!!! lol
There's always someone with a bigger faster engine though....

At least the 2.7RS is something you can replicate quite closely if you want to.

Yes but no point building a car from scratch with a lesser engine really unless you're a purist and have to have a 2.7 . The 1980's engines are far superior , easy too tune and are bombproof . Mine is modified with 220bhp and is pretty fast and yet after 15 years of abuse is still 100% reliable and requires nothing doing . No oil leaks , no warped casings , no studs breaking out , etc etc just jump in and go forever . 8)

In which case may as well stick a 993 engine in.....

Some people want the likes of MFI and the experience driving that 'type' of engine gives, like driving an original...

Some people like their replica to look period correct also.

Its horses for courses and personal preference but you can't say someone's preferences are 'lesser' just because its not what you have. Its just different.

And yes i have an RSR rep, with 3.0 engine, bored to 3.2, various race parts and on carbs.....with more than 220bhp

I too have an 80s 3.0 but would much prefer the earlier engine if only it had been in budget. Have you driven a decent 2.7 on MFI? If so, what was it you disliked?
I'd also be interested to hear how you've tuned your 3.0, for future reference

Yes stick a 3.8 in the boot with Jenveys etc etc for sure . Nothing wrong with the old 2.7 engine it's just too slow and troublesome for me . I like the look of the 2.7rs (without all that chrome trim shite on it though , lol) but i don't want it's engine as it's more fragile .

Not been in an original Rs2.7 but been in an impact bumper 2.7 and it was alot slower so it's best to use the bigger 1980's 3 litre and over engines for sure . If you don't like speed then the 1970's engines will be fine or you could always tune them up a bit if your budget allows . In that case though you'ld be better off tuning a bigger engine in the 1st place .
As for tuning , well an engines an engine so first you make it breath better . Then you up compression and swop cams , bigger valves , porting , up the capacity etc etc etc . Not enough time too write an article on it but that's a two sentance tuning guide . When you've had as many modified engines as i've had you get too know what works and what don't . All 4 stroke piston engines work in the same way , hope that makes sense . :)

Why do you keep going on about the chrome trim(by the way,it's not actually chrome),I think we know your views on this subject.let it rest and move on.

Well if it's any good it will make 90-95bhp a litre on a Dyno-dynamics rolling road on pump fuel . No 2v per cylinder N/A engines can make over 100bhp a litre unless a huge budget and rpm limit is used so 90-95 a litre is a good target .
16v N/A engines should do 110bhp a litre and around 120bhp a litre with a huge budget and rpm limit on pump fuel . Hope that makes sense . :)

Because we're talking about rs2.7 reps and there's a lightweight version and a touring version . Everyone copies lightweight versions as they look good , touring ones have all the crappy chrome/tin/plastic/alloy (or whatever they are) trim bits left on them . :)

If the IB had a CIS engine, it's a very different animal to a MFI 2.7

I know the basics of tuning thanks, but would love to hear which modifications you've found most successful on your 3.0 and is it still on original injection or carbs?. Thanks

If you're building an rs rep then you won't buy an original rs 2.7 engine as it will cost too much so you're stuck with an Impact bumper 2.7 engine most likely if that's the size you want . So they are gutless and not worth using unless you're not after speed .
My engines not been touched for donkeys years so i've not modified it at all yet . It was rebuilt by previous owner and has usual tuning mods to take it from 180bhp to 220bhp . Still shite for 3 litres though , i could do better with my eyes shut !!!!

You might not but there are quite a few 2.7RS replicas out there which have had correct spec engines built up. I'd recommend trying an MFI engine before you dismiss them

220bhp .. you mean the same as most 2.7RS spec MFI motors ( dyno proved ... just ask Bob Watson as he's had enough on his rollers )

FFS, we all know your opinion on RS touring trim

The ironic thing is, loads of us DDK'ers come from a modified car background & love 'hotrodding' etc. I have plans for my own modified 911 ... but your continued belittling of other's cars & their choice's is doing you no favours. I'm not sure wether this is intentional or not ... I'd like to think that sometimes the 'typed' word comes across different to how intended.

Back on subject, my 993 has a good 70bhp more + a shed more torque than my MFI motored 200bhp+ 2.4S has, so yes it is quicker, but it's not as much fun :) An MFI motored engine has a whole different character to any '74 onwards ones ,

Put your 993 engine into an old 911 instead of a "lardy" newer one and then it will be more fun . . As i've already said = MOST PEOPLE BUILDING A REP WON'T FIT A 210BHP RS2.7 ENGINE AS THEY WON'T HAVE THE BUDGET SO WILL GET STUCK WITH AN IMPACT BUMPER 2.7 ENGINE WHICH IS SLOWER .
I hope you understand now and don't bang your head whilst getting back on your high horse , lol .
