Music while you drive!!

I guess it is desirable to have an early radio in your early Porsche for appearance and originality - unfortunately you don't get good sound or good stations,- let alone Cd's and MP3!! Does anyone know of a radio available that looks the part, yet has FM and a decent tuner? Is there a 'retro' radio available that fills the slot above the ashtray, while playing Classic FM with reasonable clarity.
I know all the arguments about " the sound of the engine promotes feelings of ecstasy and snaps knicker elastic at 20 paces", but occasionally while sitting in the car, I like to keep up with the traffic info, and sports results!!
If there is no such gadget, could the great designers who are part of this club get their heads together, and produce one - I would even forgive a 'DDK' logo on the fascia (if it was small and discreet!!)

Tweeks in the US do a Retro style radio and it not only has Radio but a multi changer CD facility aswell

I've also been think about this...epecially looking at a system that will be hidden away. My inital thoughts are get an old radio to cover the origianl gap....then an ipod (or similar) in the glove compartment...and some new gadget speakers that are tiny and don't need to be cut into anything.

Haven't really done much research...but with the dollar so good...i'll be looikng to the US

My Previous owner cut a whacking great hole in my dash to fit his radio, is there any way i can return the dash to its 3 whole look i.e. just the tuning knobs and station selector sticking out?

Also, is a Blaupunkt Frankfurt standard porsche issue in 1972, or maybe a Koln?

Miggs, Thanks for the info on the koenig site - they seem to have the old radio scene sewn up, but what I am after is a 2004 radio with a 1969 face - satnav would be useful too, with Lord Haw Haw giving the directions!!

I actually think those radio delete plates look pretty cool, I'd be quite up for having one of those and a hidden modern radio somewhere like the glove box.

Yes, thats the way to go. I have have plans in the same direction. My design plan is to make a hatch of a old front (the built in kind) mounted on hinges with my existing 2002 radio to iPod setup just behind. (Hopfully I can link the old fronts volym button to the newones, so opening the hatch will be for on/off and cange of CDs/chanels only).

My project is just waiting for a inexpensiv, broken radio to make the hatch (I can't buy a working old radio just to destroy it ...).

I promis to show pictures of the final setup before year 2015.

You can get hard drive units to connect upto your stereo (much like an iPod) but they take power from the stereo. There was an article in 911&Pworld a while back where one of the staffers fitted one.
Paul I have the original unit the dash and then a modern one underneath the dash (added bonus is that it's pretty well hidden.

Yes I have an expensive dash filler - a Blaupunkt New York bought from a guy at Husborne Crawley last year who swore it was in working order

I haven't given up trying to get it fixed, but I found the mini-radio set and earphones I got with my programme at the Goodwood Revival this year is easier to hear above the engine and wind through the door /window gaps, and doesn't drain the car battery when I leave it on and it has only one
