I have excessive play in the steering column on a 72 911. There was a recent post on this forum on this problem with a quick fix using a plastic sleeve. I cant find this post, can anybody help.

Have you removed the steering wheel to check that the spring & cup washer are present ?
In my experience, most problems with excessive play are down to (these) missing or incorrectly fitted parts.

Hi
If it the spring and bush, Pelican have them PEL-ML-STR-E for the split ring bush in nylon $21 and 914-347-713-00-OEM for the spring $2. I guess these parts can also be sourced in the UK.
take care

Just fitted a new sleeve on my Carrera 3.0 from Design 911. Cost £14.95 +vat +delivery. Broke the plastic one doing grass autotests, now replaced with metal so shouldn't happen again. Hardest part was getting the steering wheel nut undone, extremely tight. Of course, the sleeve is not the only possible source of the problem but fairly cheap to rectify if it is.
good luck!
