Looking good John - was Barry's assessment promising for you?
I'm with the Light Ivory / flared arches group btw. I bet a man from Lancashire living in Scotland could assist you there...
Good luck - must find more time to look at DDK
2006 RHD 997 Carrera (but DDK remains in my heart - also now no longer)
1972 LHD 2.4T with '73 2.4T CIS motor - gone to a new DDK home
1994 RHD 993 Carrera - gone!
1968 LHD 911L - was the Wife's but now in new hands
Jeez, nice progress! Well done for getting stuck in so quick.
Your car was parked up next to us when we arrived at CLM on the friday morning and tbh I thought it looked quite presentable, amazing what you find when you peel all the layers back isn't it. Like others have said though it doesn't seem to look too bad, mainly surface corrosion by the looks although I'm sure the media blasting will reveal all.
Mycar - the little holes are the spot welds for the inner panels.
Just to be contrary I think you would be much better off just putting it back to standard but well fixed up.
There are lots of random look alikes of one sort and another but maybe fewer well restored 2.2E models.

I think your right, if you look at the cars that come up for sale you can find quite a few good S's and T's but not so many E's and especially 2.2 E's also budget is an issue its going to be an expensive job without having to buy expensive RS bits and I think it would have an effect on future value. Also if you put wide tyres on the rear it would alter the balance of the car. But the idea of that type of car is very appealing
Undecided

Barry had a good poke around on Friday, nothing unusual, just gone in the familiar places. Not much that Barry can’t sort, just takes time. So yes its off to Barry’s in November and should be re-born in the new year as good as new

Managed to get a couple of hours on it today, I have removed the nearside sill, its not as bad as the offside but it still has plenty of corrosion at the bottom of the A pillar and B pillar, Barry was saying that the shell will be noticeably stiffer once restored.
The front suspension was removed the engine and gearbox was dropped out on Friday, (thanks for the hand Barry) and the rear suspension removed. All the cables and rods were removed from the tunnel and then the wiring loom pulled from the front of the car out through the tunnel and out of the engine bay.
So that’s it a bare shell just the under seal to strip then it will be ready for media blasting.

How did you get that bike to balance on the top of your car at that crazy angle?
Good day for me too today. Brendan and I put the newly rebuilt gearbox and engine back into the S. Just to prove we can put things back together as well as tear them apart.
I will be interested to know how the underseal comes off. Keep up the good work.
Regards
Mike

Have you been for a run in the S and is the gearbox better?
