Hi

What a conning b*****d. The words in the description always supply the hint, right to end early as advertised elsewhere. I know the trauma you must have gone through during the process of the auction. Maybe you should drop it though, the car is probably not there any more and if it is,and it got nasty, some of the bits might mysteriously get damaged or go missing before the settlement. There is also the problem that Scottish law is not the same as English law so you would need to instruct a Scottish lawyer.

Not wishing anybody any harm but I hope things don't go well when and if the guy is selling elsewhere.

If the seller was as underhand as this then maybe the whole deal was dodgy, you will look back and see this as a lucky escape when you have the 's' of your dreams.

I'd heard yesterday that somebody was going to view it in person today (seller told someone I know that). Seemed a bit strange at the time, couldn't work it out. I'm guessing the seller let the auction run its course, viewer turned up today and a deal was made for more money. The guy would seem to be a total sh*t.

I thought once an auction had run it's course it was legally binding. And it reached its reserve. Be worth checking.

Sorry to hear that. I looked at a LHD 2.2S Targa yesterday near Maidenhhead, Ian MCLeod is aware of it as well. It is beyond restoration IMO but you may think otherwise.

actually heres a thought - slap it up on all the websites you can like DDK so if and when the new owner comes forward with his 'look at my new pride and joy' we'll all know he/she's a shiester. afterall in the gazzumping dance it takes two to tango.

If anybody is interested it's a 2.2S Targa (LHD) in I think light ivory. Just come out of storage since 1993. In need of restoration but all there. That's all I know but I do have the seller's contact number.

Gutted for you Garry, as i said yesterday, once i phoned with my train times, after he offered to collect me, he cooled on the idea. One conversation was, he has been offered 8K by someone who had not seen it. I offered to go tuesday, with 8k cash. No, i will let it run he said. Seemed to me he did not want me to view the car.

Once i starting asking questions about the condition, aluminium lid, rust etc, and the fact that i also had a rusty 2.2S, and knew what i was talking about, he went the other way. Lots of, i dont knows. Not, i will look and get back to you.

My comments on here yesterday were facts. As after my conversations i cooled on the idea, been down this road a few times so know how it feels.

I am sure something will turn up, always does.

Well Stretch I certainly take back my comments - it seems that you were bang on the money - this was his response to me when I questioned him again...
Hi I have no idea about what you are on about. The sun roof drain tubes are as far as I remember fine. I have new ones with the car and I intended to use them to carry the drain tubess right down and out the bottom of the car rather than just to the inside of the wings. The car requires full restoration. I have never hidden that fact. One side has been done and requires the rear wing reattached. The other side I would suggest needs done. The Boot floor has no rust holes nor the battery boxes nor the front panel. The bonnet is rust free as is the boot lid. I had people viewing it today and they told me it is in much better condition that they thought it would be. They say it is the best bonnet they have seen. They liked everything about the car. I have since found out that the original colour code was 2323 which is tangerine orange. The panel above the rear wing to roof I would replace with a section from a scrapped car as it has had a poor repair. I hope this gives you some comfort. There would be no point in describing it incorrectly as the purchaser could just not pay adn I would have to go through the whole hastle of selling it again. I have to be honest and say I am almost at the point of just keeping it and letting one of my kids have a go at restoring it in the fucture. It is a very rare car and I am informed that it is probobaly one of only 5 or so remaining with its year and spec..

Time to move on I think!

It will probably end up like a house gazumping. Someone calling after the auction saying, i will give you so much more. Goes to view it , ie, the survey, this is wrong, thats wrong. Down valued by the surveyor so to speak. Then back to the original winner saying i have changed my mind again. No prizes for guessing where i would tell him to put it.

I have just caught up with this thread, and sorry to read how it turned out.

For anyone interested in the previously mentioned LHD S targa, I have pics and it is not for the faint hearted. I met the owner last week and she wanted a few days contacting other traders, if it did not sell I said I would help her advertise it.

sorry to hear this, but what would happen if you had offered £30k for instance. You let the auction run, you win and then you ring up and say 'sorry dont like the colour'? I bet he would be on you like a ton of bricks. Boils my p**s this does!
