Been around a while but finally bit it!!

Ok I have been spying the forum for a while due to being a friend of Hashman, well last week I finally swapped my 1956 VW van for a 356 B T-5. It's a bit of a state but it's MOTed and running (just about).....

It's missing it's original nose after a shunt way back when, and so now sports a Fibreglass replacement looking somewhat like that of an A.......and the rest of the car appears to be coated in a minimum half inch of filler.

So like I said a lot of work, it's a tatty old beast, but I like a challenge. The car has popped up on here a few times but I hope to hold on to this one a little longer and make a few bigger changes along the way.

New engine to be fitted in a few days time, in fact the day before Classics at the Castle which I am hoping to attend........only time will tell if I make it! And once the old one is out I can begin a very slow rebuild with more oomph.

Well I have waffled quite enough, already DDK has proved a very helpful playground for problems, I will pay up my membership fees very soon I promise.

Welcome craggle, sounds like you may have bought my friend Milly's old car although I think it has changed hands a couple of times since he had it.

Sounds about right, it has had approx three owners since then I think. I think the price of Porsche stuff put each of them off in the end.......It's missing a lot of stuff and needs some serious attention, but should be good fun.

One of those previous owners being me.

I'm the one who dragged it through the mot before selling it on as i couldn't get a garage (damn listed building and planning) and had a loft conversion to build

What engine is going in it? I'd always fancied a scooby turbo

Another SUPER1600 with a stainless exhaust and weber carbs. Rebuilt a couple of years ago in the states. So I am afraid nothing exciting just hopefully won't leak compression through the whole right side of the engine and exhaust fumes through the heat exchanger into the cabin........this also allows me to start stripping the original engine ready to begin play!

Just wanted to update.

Engine now in, didn't make it to Classics as the Webers were way out of tune and I ran out of time......

I did manage to get the thing to a sensible ride height and also swapped all the odd lights and lenses for matching ones. Once the Webers are running nicely I am just going to run it round and give it a good shakedown and see what needs doing from there.

Really need to sort some form of dropped spindles I am really pushing the limits of the beam at this height, don't even ask about the bumpstops.

Looks good, I'm sure you can have some real fun with this car and not be too precious about some leftfield thinking. Enjoy!
