what has gone wrong with my 356 B starting motor?

Post by Ren »

Hi All, can anyone tell me what has gone wrong with my starting motor from this picture?

I'm sure the cog bit aint supposed to move on its own. Is it scrap?

I have been told that the 6volt flywheel is softer at the gear than the later 12volt and that the new hi-tourqe starter you can get can damage the 6v flywheel. Anyone?

I would not consider it scrap as from the picture it looks like the overrun clutch has come adrift and the unit would be repairable.
