914 resto finally begun!!

Right, after many, many months of procrastination I have FINALLY begun the restoration of my beloved '14.

A "before" shot for posterity....there will be a delay in posting further pics as my camera - in a fit of jealous rage - has decided that it too needs restoring..

I've started stripdown at rear & as this is going to be a bare-metal resto everything is coming off, being marked up & going in boxes. Already found the "new" battery tray had been stuck onto the old v rusty one with seam sealer...hmmm! Probably going to relocate the battery but jury's still out on that 1. The hell-hole is in usual state but I already knew that.

What I didn't know, & found out by removing the sound-deadening, is that the lower OS corner of the bulkhead behind the passenger seat has been patched........UH-OH!!!!!

Didn't have time to strip the seats etc out yesterday but will concentrate on camera resto today & keep you updated with pics when I continue with earnest (whoever he is) next w/end. . . . . (he says with fingers tightly crossed )

Cheers defianty. Just remembered that 'er indoors has a videocam that takes still pics so here's a couple - apologies for quality, wasn't much room to stand round the car!


The hellhole - infamous amongst 914s, good to see mine aint any different You can just about see the welded patch on the bottom corner of the bulkhead - proof of how bad that is will be available next w/end....


My bare rear.....so to speak - couldn't find a socket big enough to undo boot lock so that's coming off next sesh!


Apologies for the quality on this 1, but thought I'd try & capture the ugliness of the stripped bulkhead....got big plans for this bit on rebuild, whether it comes off we'll see!

Full update of next stage inc piccies next Sat - can't wait to get it completely stripped so I can start the bit I enjoy the most BUT I'm not rushing the stripdown....done that before now & it's taken me twice as long at rebuild stage to find all the damned bits!

Okay, same car new owner, it's at the farm keeping the '12 company! Ged had already sorted the hell hole, so at the moment the engine and box are out, and it is craving some thrashing in the sunlight, so reassembly and mechanical sortings are planned. Organised a replacement engine from a '74, so the current plans are to collect that next thursday and reinstate the original injection system in it.



Unfortunately it has picked up a ding in the past couple of years, this will also get sorted



It gets busy in that shed! 2 poster was very handy for dropping the engine/box out in one hit.
