912 / 911 Aerial hole drilling on new wing

In an effort to keep the car original does anyone have some advice in the form of measurements or even could make/trace a template of where to drill the hole on a 912 nearside wing, the wing was replaced recently but the aerial was not, thanks in advance.

Help, no replies, I am a newbie and very nervous of drilling my car. I think the hole needs to be 20mm diameter but its location is what I need. If you can measure where it is from somewhere easy then great, even better if you have a wing with no aerail a tracing would be good, you could trace the fuel flap and hole then I could line it up on my car. To note my car is a 65 912. The area infront of the leading edge of the door looks tight and I don't want to be off or could be in a load a trouble !

I am no expert! But, first things, electric or manual? I believe electric ones can only be fitted to the RH wing as there is not enough room with the filler etc. I have seen manual aerials in LH wings.
Mine is a new Hirschman (supposedly correct replacement model) fitted in a hole I drilled myself. I seem to think I was given some dimensions (on here?) but can't find any previous posts.
If yours is electric, I will measure my position, but as I say it was not a factory fit. Takes a bit of nerve to take the plunge with the drill.

Thanks for that and great photo, I was going to go for the simple manual one on the nearside wing trying to keep the car standard as possible and it is a bit tight around there so wanted to get it, right. If someone could measure for a nearside LH side manual aerial to see if its the same, I wonder if there are both in the same relative position but just electric on the RH/OS for the extra space in the wing!

No, the manual mast seems to be part way between filler flap and rear point of wing, which is further back than the elec one. Those dims will put it in the middle of the fuel flap.

0n my Italian LHD 2.4S the aerial ( manual) is mounted on the right side wing too.

Weren't most aerials dealer fit ?

my Italian LHD 2.4T 73 also has a manual aerial in/on the right hand wing. I must say aerials on the LHS make the wing look crowded and like an after market add on, IMHO anyway!

Plenty of pics with manual aerials on either side, don't know how original any are. I have to agree its looks crowded when you see it behind the filler, even more so with LHD having a door mirror close by as well.
When viewed from the side the manual; aerials are only just a small amount in front of leading edge of the door.

not tryign to throw a spanner in the works, but have you thought about fitting a surface mount aerial to the underside of the wing or the very top edge of the windscreen (right underneath the edge of the seal) so you don't have to drill the wing at all?

if you're trying to fit an aerial so it looks original and i've totally missed the point i apologise

in my wing, ( not sure if its left or right ) I can feel a 'flat spot' in the under side - I assume that this is where it is fitted.

I have an electric ariel that I need to fit - a hershman (sp ) but again am really quite worried about making a bloody great hole in the wing.

Thanks all for your help, I was just trying to put a manual aerial where it was originally but I agree with the comment above about the LH/NS wing looking crowded and the RH/OS wing looking bare. I might just put one on the OS/RH wing to be safe but will have to look at the cable access from there. I could see the cable access hole on the nearside/Left side. Bit snowed under with work at present to get the car out and have a good look.

I too can see the flat spot on the underside of the wing as mentioned above but to me it looked too close to the corner of the wing to be the spot where the aerial goes?

Any other help appreciated, does anyone have a wing lying about to look at with the hole in or could measure their LH/NS wing near the fule filler as the photo above? Cheers.

Am also trying to sort this but keep in on the side with fuel flap, any dims would be useful

I have bought a dashboard aerial from Classic Chrome that works well and avoids using the drill !
