Maybe you Paul and I, are a little out of touch with what resto places charge. You did all the work yourself exactly like me except your car looks new and my car looks an original driver that really needs some touching up here and there.

Your 35K value I would accept as correct as mine is 20K. But I have seen "A"'s like ours sell for over 50K but only a few. Sure you see the speedsters climb up the ladder and although coupes are in my opinion somewhat more pratical without a Carrera motor I reckon the Baron will have to wait a while to get his money back.

I do see some A's in the high value sportscar dealerships but they are rarely priced, so guess they are on the high side.

Its clear to me, that if I wrote my car off, its seems more than likely it would never come back to life on my insurance value. Of course its still only cost me just under 4K for the car and all the parts since I bought it, so I wouldn't exactly loose anything apart from a car I am very attached to.

I tend to drive carefully and hope nothing too bad happens.

if the unthinkable was to happen & your car was a total loss / nicked.... the point of an agreed value policy is you should be able to go out tomorrow & replace it with a similar car .

So, if you had to find a 1958 A coupe, in the next couple of weeks , what price would you have to pay ? Not many on the market & those that are, are not cheap. Using that theory a valuation for insurance purposes could be £35K - £70K ..... £20K nowadays would only buy A basket cases / projects ?????

I've been thinking about my 2.4S valuation, and if I wanted to replace my car this week I'm sure I'd be looking at 80K euros ...... which means my car is under insured :(

I guess for all our early Porsches, it becomes like the antique trade ...... just watch antiques roadshow for valuations

James is right here and again what the car has cost and what it could sell for is not the point - I feel you need to make a case for each car that it cost X and would sell for Y but you want to insure it for ???

That is after all an agreed value - you have both agreed to underwrite the risk for an agreed sum and the premium reflects this
