Yes, Steve and I have been quietly been getting on with it, and as you can see, there's just the final finessing before paint. I have to say, we're rather pleased with the look

.

Actually, Steve was over the other day and we concluded that CLM has been laid on at just about the right time*: perfect for researching all of the detail work, and I'm sure Steve's wallet will be working hard in the trade area as well

As Barry mentions we've been bouncing around a few ideas and thoughts. I have asked one of the guys on another forum to undertake a detailed set of drawings (he was the main contributor of the pictures posted earlier) in anticipation of Barry starting on the wire-form buck. We both agreed that CLM would provide a great opportunity to look at how various problems have been solved by the likes of Abarth, Porsche, Lotus, etc.

I've completed on the purchase of the new workshop so hopefully we should be in about July, which would allow Barry to start at that point (no point moving equipment only to have to move a second time shortly thereafter). We installed 356B brakes two weeks ago and the thing will now pop your eyeballs out if you don't have your eyes closed when you hit the middle pedal

we've been busy on the Special the last few weeks... 356B brakes installed, so it now pops your eyeballs out if you stand on the middle pedal. Also fitted the a Speedwell steering wheel and the 917 styled gear knob (couldn't resist that)!

I was also keen to see the car out of the workshop to get a better perspective on the 550 bodywork.... Enjoy!

absolutely! bloody noisy inside as the engine is uncovered at the moment and literally two inches from your left ear. surprisingly quiet outside which we've got to change! need to at least hear it coming a mile off before you see it

Macauley on The Samba has finished the profile for the Special. We might refine things a little (moving the air intakes up higher like the Ferrari 250LM) but otherwise this is what we are going to build. Next step is to do front and rear mock ups and then start on the wire form buck

it's come out allright hasn't it?! Macauley is doing blueprints as well, including dimensions, etc to make things as easy for Barry as possible. Macauley is more excited about it than I am at the moment!

yes most people are sensible I guess! I just jumped at the chance though. It's pretty rare to finish a period race car rather than restore one. The amount of creativity involved, as opposed to problem solving was what drew me to the project. plus the advanced nature of the design for the time. whether I'll still be this enthusiastic when we're mired in solving problems will be another matter!
