Hi all.... have been a longtime lurker & am now the proud owner of an old banger.... my kids have affectionately named her kermit (although I have pointed out that kermit is normally a different green... but, you know what kids are like!)

So... it is an original UK import RHD 1969 911T, sent out here to the colonies at some stage & has been well kept by at least 2 Aussie owners (that I know of) prior to me, including a full body resto about 6 years ago (thanks Matt!) & has been fettled to be a good, solid daily driver. So all the hard work has been done - not that there isn't stuff to be done down the track... isn't there always??

Finally, I am keen to find out a little more about the car's history when it was in England. Is there a good place to start that might have records based on VINs etc? Any help would be appreciated.

i'm with your kids,i think it suits the Kermit title. you just need to fit a red carpet in the boot for the full effect

With only the chassis number I reckon difficult to find out much info. Sure,
I guess Porsche importers over here might have info but which one? It might help if you had the original UK registration number of the car. From this it should be possible to establish which part of the country it went to as a starting point and possibly the local Porsche centre to this area might have held some records.

The DVLA ( car tax) might still have info but for a car that was exported difficult to know the procedure of asking. ( for example I entered on their website the registration number of an old Norton motorcycle I owned in the early 60's. Info was then shown on screen that the last tax liability for the bike was in 1989. Where it is, if it was scrapped, who ownes it is not detailed.

Maybe, others on this forum have had success in finding previous owners and will chime in.

Viv: thanks m8, a local GTG would be great! I work in St Kilda (Chapel Street to be precise!) so I'm sure we can find a close venue for a catch-up! I'll PM you a bit later on... I try & stay away from the GP if I can help it! I went to see the REAL racing on friday at Phillip Island - Historic Race Meeting with lots of beautiful machinery on display - 2 x 1930's Alfa Romeo GP cars that were just divine; lots of type 901's, BMW batmobile, Aston Martin's, Maserati's etc etc etc. And the NOISE!! OMG... beats the crap out of the new fangled stuff... not to mention the smell of Avgas. LOL

Roy: Thanks for the info, too! I think I might have a very bad photocopy somewhere in the documentation that came with the car that has the original dealer info with it. I will have another look tonight... it's funny, because the engine & vin are NOT matching, but are only out by a handful. The previous owner believes that the engine may have been replaced by the dealership early into the original ownership, but I have my doubts... mind you, it does seems odd that if someone replaced it after the fact because they blew the original one up, they would find a 69 2.0 just a few numbers different to the original... or maybe they just got lucky!

Richi & Sean: thanks also. Whilst the exhausts sound amazing on cam, everyday driving around town (or in the countryside trying to stay on the right side of the law) the drone that accompanies them anywhere under 3500rpm is mind-bogglingly bad. If anyone has a solution, I would be eternally grateful to hear it... Well actually, after a long run in the country I can't always hear... Boom boom.
