69 911S 2.2 Pre-purchase inspection advice

Hi All

Only second post so here goes.

I am going to look at a 69 911S 2.2 in the morning and having a pre-purchase inspection carried out by a Porsche specialist however not sure how clued up they are on the early cars.

Unfortunately I do not have time to get an expert on these cars to assist.

I plan to observe the work and have asked them to concentrate on trying to seek out body shell corrosion.

If someone would be good enough to point out the main problem areas that should be investigated I would be very grateful.

Start with checking

• Rear Torsion bar.
• Front suspension pan.
• B pillars
• Sills
• Floors (remove as much of carpet as owner will let you).
• Rear parcel shelf
• Battery Boxes
• Check for previous accident damage (shut lines etc)
• Check for previous body repairs.

I can shed some light on this although I think the poor guy is going down the wrong route.

The owner of this car handled this sale disgustingly imho. I was also interested in it but after getting more information on it and seeing the original PPi from when the owner bought it felt it needed quite a bit of money spending on it to get to a condition i'd be happy with and we know how these things can get out of hand!!

The price that this car was available for changed almost every single day in the week its was for sale - it turned into an auction in all honesty and one where the outcome was always going to be the same.

i even said to the owner by email at the begining of last week "i have wasted too much time on my collection in the past with owners where this kind of thing happens and it all ends in tears and temper."

Surprise surprise this has happened.

The guy above got an agreement to be the first person to view the car yesterday.

He booked flights up to Scotland, stayed in a hotel on Thursday night and got a company organised to do the PPI on Friday morning.

Turned up on Friday to be told 'sorry its sold'.

Huge amount of expense incurred, days of work etc etc.

Outcome - tears and temper and a seller with no integrity and a pretty sad reputation if you ask me.

Sadly the world has quite a lot of them and you can but move on.

Paul if you are reading this I'm sure its still really hurting and you are pacing around still pretty angry, but in all honesty you will get nowhere taking it any further than getting more stressed and more annoyed.

Everything happens for a reason and maybe you will look back on this one day and think 'thank god'....there will always be other cars.

Thanks for the pearls of wisdom Jason, I do appreciate what you say however the situation is rather more complex.

Under the present circumstances it is rather disappointing to have to admit that I had reached a sale agreed position with the vendor of this car on two separate occasions over the last week or so.

And I could perhaps walk away from this being done to me once but not twice my friend and that is why I am taking it all the way.

The problem is now essentially subcontracted so Jason I will relax and finally get some R&R this weekend.

thats awful. i seem to have been pretty lucky and have only (so far) come across really nice people when buying and selling. but, then i never travel THAT far to look at a car. theres always one available closer to home if you just wait a bit.

so please Paul.. don't let this put you off.

To PM123, Paul I think. I hope you don't mind me saying this, but I'm with Jason. On the few occasions I have been here, people like me have said don't do it and I have been pretty annoyed at them. However, even if you have sub-contracted it, it won't stop it eating you up. The more you spend, the more you'll need to get satisfaction and the more you'll spend.
