Special Factory Rally Options with Porsche Certificate of Authenticity
The first owner ordered this car with rally options from the factory with the intention of competing in Europe and the US. He never did. The car was delivered in Europe and after a short vacation the car was shipped back to the US. The car was then only used for Sunday drives and a drive to the office once in a while. The first owner sold the car in 2003 showing 99,500 miles, it has been in only three collectors hands ever since. This car is a numbers matching survivor and in excellent condition, ready for vintage racing, tours, or shows. This car is one of only 449 911Ls built in 1968.
Recently the car has undergone a mechanical restoration and inspection to insure that all systems are in proper running condition. The original patina of the body and interior was not touched. The trunk, undercarriage and suspension have been refinished. The original engine and transmission have been completely rebuilt and upgraded.

Porsche Certificate of Authenticity Options List::
• U.S. Equipment, Side Marker Reflectors
• Limited Slip Differential
• Engine Compartment Light With Chrome Lid
• Blaupunkt Radio “New York” with Speaker and Manual Antenna
• Roll Bar
• Tool Bin (in rear seat area)
• Tinted Windshield, Side Glass, and Rear Window
• Halogen Fog Lights - White
• Skid Plates for Front suspension, Engine and Transmission
All of these items are still on the car.

Upgrades
• 911R style gas tank
• 7x15 911R rear wheels
• Period correct racing seats, new racing seat belts
• New hood mounted Rally lights, H1 Headlights, and rear fog light
• Rebuilt engine to 2.2 S specifications with new Pistons and Cylinders, Carrillo rods, and a new Elgin (906/S) cam. The heads have been ported and flowed, racing exhaust, MSD ignition, Turbo chain tensioners have been added.

So, if I’m reading that correctly it’s was supplied pretty much as a standard car but specified with an LSD, a roll bar, a tool bin and skid plates.
The remainder (large capacity petrol tank, 7” ‘R’ rear wheels, racing seats, racing belts, hood mounted rally lights and good spec engine are later (quite probably recent) additions. OK.

Some time ago I saw some pics that Bob Tilton took when he was at Canepa with this car included (although not as shiny as these) which were so detailed and that as well as a restorer I was having work done with showed me pics from his trip - the attention to detail there seems very high - but as I was told back then Canepa cant / wont start a restoration for under $100k.

Some of the info on Bruce Canepa's site is inaccurate - for instance the car was not still owned by the original owner in 2003 ... I remember Don Ahearn buying it in 2001 from the 2nd owner. I'm pretty sure that it was Don that upgraded the (original) engine & added the seats, 7R wheels, 100 litre tank, etc.
