2.4E - what this worth?

Hi All.

Could I ask for your considered opinion on the value of a project car for a friend of mine.

1972 2.4E
UK RHD
Matching numbers.
It has all the original bits it should have.
Needs new sills and work on the B posts. Torsion tube area is solid.
Some work required on the floor pan in front of the petrol tank.
Probably needs two new front wings.
Other than that body solid - in need of some TLC rather than a basket case.
Silver (original colour) so would need an all over blow over after work done.
Engine, suspension and gearbox are currently removed from car but part of the package.
Engine smokes on overrun. Has all the correct bits on it.
Gearbox needs a couple of syncros
Supension and brakes functional.
Good interior black interior and all there.
Recaro sport seats - driver side sagged/ripped, passenger good.
Original Fuchs. Looks like they have had paint at some time rather than a full refurb. In good nick.

I essence a good starting point for a restoration.

Alternatively what's a restored version of this car worth in the market today? Then I can work backwards.

Cost to get "your's" there ... hmm........... depends who does work and obviously what they have to do ......... they are always worse when you get their clothes off .... always !!

I know what you mean about them being worse than appearances and yes there will be bits to be done in addition to what I have described. I've poked around this one and the assesment I've given is pretty accurate. I've looked up the rear inners and around the front scuttle, etc and there is nothing obvious. Floor is solid etc.

Are they really worth 40K? I would have guessed lower.

If it was something special ? ......... could even be more than 40 !!!!

I would put the value of a restored RHD beyond £45K. A 2.4S of the same vintage would be £60-£70K.

The problem is getting it to that standard could cost more than £30K

Wow I wouldn't have guessed that much but I suppose they follow the S so I see the logic.

Done properly with the correct parts/history etc a 2.4E could make £50k.
40-45k is now RHD T territory.

If it is then I've never seen it anywhere. There are some mint Ts in the USA still for half that. I can't see many people paying 40k+ for any T

If more people actually "got their hands dirty" and restored these things themselves - they would understand the time (and hence cost) that goes into them. In the vast majority of cases I guess the output is NOT worth the input - especially if you have to pay someone to do it for you.
Recent thread on this site ref 105 quid an hour (++++ in cases) - a low price (good) restorer may let you away with 40 to 50 pounds an hour . I'm not the quickest , but on my latest car - have just passed 1000 man hours and it's not quite ready for paint yet ......... do the sums , and that's before you buy a single panel !!

What's the demand for a restored 2.4E at the moment? Easy market to sell in or are buyers very few and far between?

I sold my old RHD 911 'T' not so long ago
It was a well known car having been featured in many magazines.
Matching numbers and honestly the nicest original 911 I ever saw.
A beautiful car in a great and original colour , perfect shut lines with over £ 12,000 of recent bills the car was an absolute peach and drove impecabably.
I advertised it exclusively on DDK with an asking price of £25,000.
It created some interest from members asking for close up macro photo's of the left hand door hinge when viewed whilst standing on my head singing Jerusulam. Other offers included an invitation to part exchange for a Mondeo and five grand. Other members accused me of profiteering
One honest chap came from ' up north' but wasn't too keen on the dogleg gearbox.
The only other couple that showed fell in love with it but I still needed all my negotiating skills to part them with just under £ 23,000.
Since then, the world has gone through the greatest recorded recession of modern times.
£ 40K for a 911Tseems a trifle optimistic to me

Think market in process of adjusting. Mint 'S' in US market - bids are drying up at $55-60K.

i still think the realistic market for average to mint is

T = £15k - £25k

E = £20k - £40k

S = £30k - £60k

If people are paying above that they are simply not looking hard enough
