Cibie Headlights

Post by Ren »

If you have purchased Cibie headlights and then fitted them - did they fit?

The set I purchased from the right people will not let me put the metal ring on the light unit which is held down with those spring clip bits.

The metal ring helps locate the light unit into the holder that fits in to the bucket that holds the lens.

Ren,
Mine went together OK and are on the car now. Not sure what your problem is.

I think I'm right in saying that only Bosch and Hella were suppliers to Porsche.
A lot of cars had these head-lights including things like Mercedes trucks of the same period.
Cibie I would sugest came along and offered an option for mainly the vw market.
Now throw in the US spec head-lights and head-lights that were sold with sealed beam units and about 5 different cheap after market suppliers of no names and eastern origin......
Are you trying to couple a Cibie unit to a different manufacture bezel? If so the answer lies in the above

Yes I think Paul is probably bang on. One fits and the other don't but if I miss out the metal ring then I can fit the unit. I may have to do some bodging on this.

Ren,
I don't know whether it has any relevance to your problem but I found the outer holder for the lens is v.slightly bigger (5mm) in diameter on the US sealed beam assemblies than on the original European type. So you can't mix these bits. All the H4 conversions only work with the genuine US type.
