How many 1953 coupes registered in UK ?
Is there a way to find out (from DVLA?) how many '53 coupes there are registered in the UK ?
I'm trying to show how 'rare' they are to try to save some vat ...... HMRC are tightening up and are now less inclined to let imports in at 5%vat
Thanks,
Steve

Good luck with that one
I tried it with my Fiat Zagato Abarth, despite there only having between 12 and 20 "Corsa" versions built they flatly refused. My shippers said it now only applies to extra rare items like Bugattis and the like.
The problem was the thousands of VW buses getting imported, "mine is a very rare barn door only 20 known examples" yeah right but as far as customs are concerned its a VW bus and VW made millions of them so tough.
This country is skint so the tax man is cracking down hard everywhere.
There may well be isolated examples where people have gotten away with it, I am sure they will chime in here, but the general feedback is thems the rules and we are not inclined to see it your way.

Thanks ...... The way that HM Revenue & Customs is dealing with this has only tightened up in the last month and now they are being really tough with their interpretation of the rules.
This is an interesting article worth reading........

Still looking for those numbers ......
Cheers,
Steve

you could try asking Fred Hampton who runs the PCGB 356 register. 356@porscheclubgb.com
OR our very own Mike Smith of PR services might have some idea.

the customs problems are nothing new really - 7 years ago they insisted that my 53 deluxe vw samba was not a rare vehicle (at the time it was the only known 53 in the uk)
i was hit with a retrospective! charge after the initial duties had been paid and the vehicle cleared... suffice to say we challenged this and to date have not had to pay the latter fees.
good luck with your efforts

A quick poll might help?
'54 languishing unloved here.
A pm to 912uk would be a good start for an unofficial count
