RS61 Dolphin

Saw this 1963 RS61 on Jan Luhn's site and wondered what the history is, in advance of any detail on his site....

I love the front end of that car very Pontoon Fender Testa Rossa, not so sure about the rear though...

If I recall correctly there was an article on this (or a similar US special) a couple of years back in the 356 Registry mag

On a similar note, worth looking up the Pupulidy special too - that was sold recently and that is a great looking car.

These were Porsche Pushrod Engined Cars built in Florida in the 60`s

It is stretching it a bit to call it an RS61 - it bears no relation to a 4-Cam Aluminum Bodied Porsche, although it is very nice and it does have proper adjustable suspension

Vic Skirmants owns and races one and has it well sorted, although I did do a little bit of Mech. work on it last year at Daytona when Bill Stephens (UK) drove it very successfully

There were a few of these rebodied lightweight cars with 356 pushrod box and running gear

I think a lot of people worked out that the 550 and RS60 and 61 were successful because of good running gear , brakes and lightness ....so they just added some more lightness
There were also some "Poopers" Porsche coopers which I personally think look even better where thee driver sat in the middle of the car ... (Some of the RS60s also had a moveable setup so the driver could sit in the middle)

Anyway , heres a modern pic of one; actually 2 ...the one in the background is also a porsche cooper...

Yep ...I especially like the location of the spare wheel...methinks it probably doesnt stay there during racing
