Ah Judsons... just scraping 60bhp on my oval and that's with Okrasa heads, 356 'Massey' oil filter and an Abarth four tip. The Judson was stripped and rehoned with new blades, balanced pulleys and NOS Solex, oh and the correct sidescreen stickers which makes all the difference of course... it used to be on the 1500 in my old single cab - which was a laugh - but only lasted 1200 miles before needing a complete refurb from the bearings up.

But how much for the 2.3 t4 engine?

I have got my 912 engine to 130 bhp last time it was on the rolling road, high level spec below.....no change from £6700

1720 shasta piston and billet barrels
912 crank balance etc
Norris 337s cam
rebuilt solex carbs
shasta power pulley
balance and lighten flywheel
pertronix iginition
356 sports exhaust
rebuilt heads
matched manifolds
flow full oil system
Was that scratch built? Or £6.7k with a good donor engine.
That was from a good block with re-useable crank and heads, did required all new bearings etc.

I do have bills for over £9K but that is because the first build was not up to the job. Have to say now I have an engine that runs well sounds great and I drive hard without worrying (to much)

I have a type 4 914 long block 1.8 (an code) for sale £300. would make a great 2.3 engine.
check out la performance (uk based) as they will build 2.3 with a porsche cowl and fan using the 914 1800 http://www.laperformance.co.uk/2270.html

Not very extreme, but when I had my engine rebuilt last year, I went for Shasta forged pistons and barrels to take it up to 1720cc plus a fast-road cam. That gave it an excellent boost, but after fitting a Bursch exhaust last week, I can also vouch for the potential power increase offered over the standard 912 system. No idea of bhp figures as it's never been on a rolling road, but I had it revving to 7,000rpm up Prescott hill climb at the weekend and it was happy as anything and still had more to give. :)

/\ cheap engines, 250bhp, 250lbft out the box, nice sound.. only problem is they come with all that water heating business

if you were feeling really fruity and fancied something completely different (plus lots of opportunity to show off your fabrication skills) you could always go with a 2-litre beetle engine, cooper S supercharger and a megasquirt 8)

Actually it's a type 1 flat four.

This is it in the car:

It was NOT cheap! But I know I won't get my money back on it.

Why the Carrera 3 fan ?
Was it to prevent over-cooling or just because it was the closest thing to hand?
Cheers

The fan might look like a Carrera 3, but it's branded a 'turbo ranch cooler'.

Wanted that look so it didn't look like a beetle engine

I'll post up the full spec over the weekend, but there's a summary on the for sale post: http://www.ddk-online.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=25913

Thanks for your replys, this is going to need alot more thought.
If I go for a foriegn engine it would be either a typeIV or a flat6 911 motor, but as the car has lasted this long in its original state it seems a shame to split it apart.
But then the other half of me says, its only an old 912, flog the motor and build up a nice typeIV.
Also looking into a small Turbo installation for a bit more of a boost !

Thanks Nick.
