LeMans - the circuit

Post by hot66 »

Here is a taster of track action on Saturday. An experience I will never forget.

Hundreds of Porsches on track, & all hell braking loose ;)

Martin, my camera man, waiting to get onto track

Just about kept up with this RS

My speedo was reading 250kph & my S was still pulling strong when we took this photo. Shame the chicane was arriving very quickly

Fantastic pics James 8) . Sounds like I need a bigger engine .. .. ..

Your car being Italian spec, I guess this was 250kph in reverse?

Have just seen the photo's you posted, Hot66, as I have only just got back to the UK from Le Mans via Montelhery, Reims, Spa 24 hrs and Nurburgring Oldtimer.

The white RS3.0 overtaking you on the Mulsanne was mine - great shot. My son videoed the two laps from inside the car, and after reviewing it, I see that I almost caught you by the first chicane. Missed a gear going into it (damn 915 box, the change is the worst aspect of the car), and then got passed you just before the second chicane.

You'r right about never having enough power though, just a little later a silver GT2 came past me like I was standing still! Brilliant two laps though.

I think your speedo was a little optomistic though, although I can't see any part of my speedo beyond 70 mph, the rev counter max I saw was probably only equivelent to about 150 mph.

Regards,

Oldcarrera

Now thats what I call a holiday 8)

My car was still pulling strong so the speedo reading was a bit on the high side, but it does sound good when telling the story down the pub ;)
I too missed a gear pulling onto the main straight thru the grandstands, 7200rpm in 2nd straight into 5th  , couldn't think of a better place to miss a gear & be passed by the cars I had been pulling away from than in front of the grandstand spectators

It was a really fun 2 laps, and seeing I've never been on a race track before in my life, not a bad introduction

Hi oldcarrera

I am glad that you have surfaced at last. I saw your car at the campsite but never got the chance to stop and chat as the girlfriend was always in a hurry to get to the shower/toilet/supermarket.

I just love that pub bull***t :bigsmurf:
then got passed you just before the second chicane
I too missed a gear pulling onto the main straight
