Coast 2 Coast DDK Tour 2009 - 12th / 13th September 2009

Just going through the pace notes this evening, this is going to be an excellent trip.

I can see great deal of work has gone into all this..... it`s a wonderful tour of Ooop North, well done James.

I`ve been doing a bit of Google flying and this aerial of Ribblehead viaduct caught my eye, (Day 1 stage 63, turn right) Wonderful shadow. We come in middle to top right and leave middle to bottom right.

Do a Google Earth search `Ribblehead viaduct UK` for a bit more of an interactive experience.

Here`s one I prepared earlier, I call it `Albert Blue with arches`

Only 1 week to go

You should by now have :

1. your routes planned & printed ( and studied them

)

2. know your Sat morning start time, remembering St Bees is just over 1 hour away from the Friday night Hotel

3. Informed me if you're a veggy ( for the Sat night meal)

4. Sorted your menu with Vicky if you're eating Fri night with the DDK group

oops - I had not read the thread properly. I post my thoughts in case I am not the only one who does not read instructions properly.

Looks like no breakfast for many then:-
Hotel breakfast 8:00am - 11:00 am
Newby Bridge to St Bees = 1hr 11mins (AA route finder)
start 09ish at St Bees

Allowing 15 mins for breakast = 8:15 +1hr 11mins = 09:26
However the hotel can deliver continental breakfast to the room.

Somehow I cannot see James starting to wave us off at 09:00 from St Bees.

Options seem to be :-
Continental breakfast.
Do St Bees to Ambleside on Friday evening then a full breakfast on Saturday and join the others to start from Ambleside.
Breakfast and drive fast to continue with plan A

Jason, I have asked for details from the hotel manager ref Breakfast timings & they will get back to me tomorrow , hope to have answers 1st thing Monday ... they is a possibility breakfast timings might be changed to accomodate us all

IF they are rigid with their breakfast timings I will move the start times on by 1/2 hour - 3/4 hr or so to allow plenty of time for breakfast ..... there is no way I"m missing out on a full english

... I'm planning on being at St Bees before everyone arrives

There is plenty of time on the Saturday to complete the route even if starting at 10.30, although the roads do get busier as the tourists all start pulling their nissan micras onto the roads.

No need to worry, I'll have it all sorted ...... it's just one of many little details I've had to deal with so far

The Swan Hotel has kindly agreed to host breakfast from 7.30am ( I'm sure you'll all be pleased with the early start

)

To make life a bit easier & I am changing the ST BEEs start times to a bit later so everyone can enjoy their bacon, sausages, eggs etc .

Well done, It would definitley have got the day off to a less than optimal start without a harty breakfast. Especially one we had already paid for !!!

personally i'm not that fond of sausage
