i-tunes help - movies

I have quite a few movies on I-tunes so they can be sync'd onto mine & my daughters i-pods.

Problem is with each movie just under a Gb I have filled my laptops memory

Anyone know how I can still sync movies via i-tunes onto my i-pods but with them stored on an external HD & not on my local ?

I'm guessing you still want to keep your music on the laptop and just transfer the movies to the external drive?

you could just get an external HDD, move the files there and then delete from itunes library and re-import into itunes from the external drive?

if they're itunes downloaded files with the security b.s. on them then I think they need to stay in the machine HDD so you might be better to move the music elsewhere and leave the videos where they are (its easy to remove the security from protected music files, but im not sure about the videos)

You can keep and run all you itunes library on a external HD, it takes a little work though.

I rarely use the CD/DVD in my laptop so replaced it with a drive bay and a 500Gb hard drive. Bought a converter too for the DVD so it is now a USB device if needed. 600Gb of storage isn't too bad in a laptop. Enough space on there for lots of films and MP3's (and work files). And I also carry an external drive for even more space. Must go out more.

I store a lot of movies on an external HD & at the moment drag them into i-tunes if they are wanted on the ipod

I have a couple of suggestions on what to do & when I get a minute or so I'll look into them in more detail

other option if you have multiple computers in the house is a linksys NSLU2 and an external hard drive.
If you can follow instructions and are semi-confident around a computer then you can set one of these up with the modified unslung firmware and then install firefly media server. This works as a media server to itunes so can effectively share your library over a network to either several computers or upnp devices such as a soundbridge or PSP/PS3/xbox360 (although twonky media is better with the xbox than firefly as it can also serve video files)
