DDK C2C Tourist Guide - Download & Print

Not long now until the DDK C2C

The route ( to be plotted / planned by you ) will cover some of England's most spectacular scenery & roads .... from technical & narrow roads / passes in the Lakes & the Dales, to the fast sweeping moorland roads of Teesdale & Yorkshire Moors.

The main point I must emphasis about this DDK tour is, I will supply everyone with the " DDK Tourist Guide" which includes suggested points of interest to travel through / stop at, but it is not a 'pre-planned route' or a 'convoy' style of event. Everyone is free to go which ever route they choose. If small groups are happy to drive together that's great & adds to the enjoyment. The aim is for you all to tour across the most scenic part of England, in your own time & at your own pace.

So, using this guide & google maps I'm sure you can all come up with a great route across northern England

as an example of what is possible using Google Maps & the DDK Tourist guide, try entering the names of the interesting places ( fully highlighted in bold) & see what routes you can create

Here is one I came up with for example

Nice example... Not exactly a straight line and just the way we like it!

...now when I add my postcode to the start it tells me I need to get up at 5:00am to have any hope of meeting you for a 9am kick off! ...and it's a 408 mile round trip

Nice example James, me and a bloke I know recently drove a very similar route - I can concur its a very pretty route that takes in many of the suggested guidebook places

Has everyone been able to download this OK ?

Has the idea of using Google maps been working ? Have you been able to print out a detailed route plan ( of the route you have created) from google maps ?

Just to add one small alternative for those people that have not been to the Lake District before -
or more specifically Windermere -
it is possible to cross the lake on the car ferry -
it doesnt take long to get across, BUT,
the queue can get VERY long
so personally I wont be going across on it,
but Windermere virgins might want to take it eeeeasssssyyyyyy

James is right ... very nice scenic ferry ride across Windermere + the drive to the ferry takes you past Beatrix Potters farm / Hawkshead

if the que isn't too bad it'll add 1/2 hour to your journey

As you will have read on the tourist guide, the only organised meeting places we have are the hotels .

Please note you will have to find your own lunch stops on Saturday & Sunday ..... it wasn't practical to organise these due to numbers

The areas you are travelling through have loads of great places to stop for lunch, from Pubs to Cafes ... all adds to the fun discovering little gems off the beaten path

Hope by now everyone has downloaded & printed off this guide. Additionally I hope you all have created yourselves a route on Google Maps

There are obviously holes in this game plan, namely, I tried keeping up with 914s in Wales and they`re generally a bit quick.
And also if everybody else adopts my excellent touring technique, we`ll never actually get out of St. Bees.

Two weeks, can`t wait.
