912 Values/Price

Post by Strictly »

Hi there

I allready have a 356, and a few other cars, but im after a 912 to add to my collection (so if you have one for sale about 8k then lets talk).

Could you kindly help me with values/prices...

What do you think of the prices of theses cars...

1)

Im guessing about 6000 ish for the one below as it hasent got the right engine, ALSO shouldn't the dash dials be green in colour????

http://pistonheads.com/sales/1147609.htm

This one is for sale, but im undecided on it as i would prefer the right engine in place

2) This next one is sold, but if you could comment on the price, that gives me a better idea for next time one comes up...

Also what colour is this, i love it! It looks to be a silver with a hint of gold.

I guess it depends on the overall condition - the car on psitonheads was owned by Terry from Porsche curves so the body work could be in very good nick! Could be a fun car for not too much money.

The dials changed at some point - i think with the change to LWB? My 69 dials arent green.

I'm pretty sure the car at Fuchs is silver - just a trick of the camera i think. And not sure how much it went for.

Overall the prices seem to be going a bit daft - that doesn't mean they are selling for the prices requested though. For example, the one below is reportedly £22k

there's a general price guide from Gavin here:

Guys, I've always wondered, what are the main differences between the 911 and 912 apart from the obvious engine and some of the interior trim? How does the performance of the original 2.0 911 compare to a well sorted 912 ?

Performance from a soooped up 912 pretty keeps up with an early 911 (ask jamie) My big bore 912 was quite perky when you kicked it!

Take a Look at the 911 sticky " 911 classic road tests " for test results of 1966 porsche 911 with 2.0L engine
Car and Driver road test of 912 with 1.6 engine ( figures in brackets )

BHP 130 ( 102 )
Top speed 130 mph ( 115 mph )
0-60 mph 8.3 ( 11.5 )
Standing quarter mile 16.1 sec. ( 18 sec )
MPG 19.2 ( 25 mpg )

So basically the standard 912 has about 20% less power than the 911, although a rebuilt big bore engine is likely to be quicker. Nice!

Have 912 prices suddenly jumped up while I wasn't looking or is this just an exceptional car.

Even if it is exceptional that's still way too much!

Seems prices are really on the up.

My friend has a few BMW CSLs and a similar thing has happened there - gone up alot in the past 2/3 years.

Out of interest the silvery gold colour car for sale through fuchs in the first post has been advertised recently (but on gas burners instead of fuchs) for £15k. Not sure if it was too cheap first time around or whether the current dealer is taking the p**s a bit? I have a feeling it may be a bit of both

I am glad to see prices creeping up as this will have the affect of keeping more 912s on the road. The body work is the same as the 911 therfore the same cost to repair, the engine is nearly (if not) the same cost to rebuild correctly. So if values are on the up this should result in more cars being restored/saved.....which can only be a good thing.

Also as I have own a 912 for 11 years and chucked a lot of cash at it, it would be nice to see the value increase (although I have a long way to go to get back what I have put in!)
