hy all, been in ddk for almost three days now l o l, i am buying.a 912 that wants a bit of engine work, ,comes from california, so hopefully no rust issues,,? can anyone on the site give me an idea of what to look out for, problem areas etc, i have a splitscreen van 1958, which i will be selling soon, so i know a little bit about vws any help advice will be appreciated cheers all gedd, ps i am from blackpool area,[/b]

Hi and welcome to DDK and Porsche ownership.

as a very, very rough guide.

look out for rust in the cills and wheel arches. open the boot and look into the corners as if the boot seals have gone then water does get into the boot and then sits in the lowest parts & corners.

we have also found serious rust on an otherwise good looking car,hidden under the petrol tank. but, this is impossable to find just on a quick inspection.

pull up the carpet mats and have a good look at the floor, don't forget under the seats.

Fingers crossed it is a "rust free" California car - some are more rust free than others!

They go rusty is a lot of places - structurally floor pans, fuel tank support panel up front to name but two. My car came from California and needed both the above although not much else thankfully.

Hope the engine isn't too much of a problem - just don't make the mistake thinking its a VW motor!
