RHD Koni steering damper

Hi all, I have part numbers but have been told by the importer that the part is LHD only but Porsche tell me they fit both RH and LHD cars.

number 695-347-501-10

koni 76-1099

Also the price appears to have sky rocketed.

My friend paid about £75.

Porsche are asking for £168.79

So do LHD dampers fit RHD cars? and who is doing the best price on Koni?

Ren,

To my knowledge the two front and the two rear are the same as each other. The front ones are different to the rear ones but only on the way they fit onto the car.

WWW.stoodard.com have the following Koni on stock:

Front: 644-343-501-10 $149-60 ( £91 ) ex VAT duty and shipping

Rear:n 644-333-501-10 $149-60 (£91 ) ex VAT duty and shipping

Bushings for the rear ones are listed at $5-20 each ( 4off reqd.

The also sell Boge items much cheaper:

Boge Front costs £35- and the back £21- each ex VAT etc.

All above suit 356A-B and C.

I have had some Spax adjustables on my front bought from Autocavan 15 years ago and the work well.

Currently on www.needforspeed.co.uk they list the following:

Spax front SPXG319 Adjustable £53-07
Spax rear SPXG320 Adjustable £57-90 all ex VAT

I have kept my original koni's and they could be rebuilt ( maybe yours could also be rebuilt they offer a service for that)

If you are correct with the Porsche prices I suggest you walk away from them. Maybe they miss informed you? Those prices are ridiculous

Have a look on the web pages.

The Koni's are of course original from T2's.

I have a cheap and cheerful bug one on my car and it works fine as for left and right I cannot think of a reason as to why they would differ left to right hand drive , did you get to the bottom of your tick over issue , bent carb spindle ?? Bill.

There is no difference in RHD or LHD cars.
The koni unit is marked as to which way up it goes.

Be careful with lesser makes of steering dampers as they come up too short....
This means you will loss full lock on one side unless you move the bracket down the beam.

Like Bill, I would like to know if you solved your tick over problem?

yeah thats true enough about lesser steering dampers you do have to move the mounting bracket about on the beam to get the best position so as not to limit lock one way , there is a specific measurement from the factory for the genuine item, interestingly the pre A's running their Roman chariot 16" wheels did not feature steering dampers or anti roll bars, anyway given the choice I would prefer Koni steering dampers and indeed Koni shocks , Bill

I used a vw bus damper without any problems.
Some info. for you:-
Original 1957 Stablis make has open centre dimn. of 418mm and closed dimn. of 272mm giving a usable stroke of 146mm.
New Bus damper(Boge) has open dimn. of 396mm and closed dimn. of 272mm giving a usable stroke of 134mm.
So the new damper has slightly less stroke(12mm) but the steering does not require that much anyway.
I set my steering to the exact straight ahead position and adjusted the damper until it was at half stroke, ie. 329mm and fitted the clamp in that position.
