Alex,

The road tax became due for XUM 399 on 01-04-2004. After this date it was not re-taxed for UK use.

XUM 399 was first registered 01-10-1956

The colour was given as Grey in the log book or info the Tax office had.

I looked through the PCGB 356 registry of 356 cars for 1992 and its not listed. Probably because the owner did not belong to a club and didn't realise it existed.

The tax office will not disclose any oither info as far as I am aware apart from that detailed above.

Hi.

Mike Smith of PRS has been entrusted with the AFN records of every official 356 imported into the UK.
Every car has a cardex which Mike can copy and send.
It might be worth getting in touch with him.

Alex,

This I reckon is your lucky day! Maybe not if you were passed on this "Car" magazine article on your car but as it was written 24 years ago in 1985 then there is a chance you didn't get it.

I was browsing again through some books and cut outs and the reg number "flashed" to my eyes. It was then owned by Richard Cabburn and he must have arranged a meeting with "CAR" magazine. I don't know if that mag is still going? but if so they might have back copies?

I have just photo'd the pages and hope you can read them ( I can on my PC) Should you not have them and you can't read the text then maybe I could send you the torn out originals.

I will also PM you the photos so you can see them possibly a bit better.

Alex,

This car also came 8th in the 356 group of the 1982 PCGB concours event when owned by R Cabburn

8th in a concours!!! You should see it now. Sold at auction in New Zealand yesterday for approx 10,500 GBP. Needs a serious restoration and some research into its provenance. It has two chassis numbers, a 56 T1 and a 58 T2 number. A lot of the car points to a T2 but it but it was supposedly registered new in October 56.

A bit of a mystery.
Regards
Paul

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think Alex ever owned this car. He asked some questons about this 356A but the outlaw car he seems to own from his profile is a 54 pre-a model.

The person who actually ended up buying the 356A at the auction is trying his best to obtain a back copy of the "Car" magazine write up shown above.
