Peter Wheeler - RIP

Just read that Peter Wheeler the former owner of TVR died today aged 64. Peter was instrumental in turning TVR into a respected British car company and brings us some beautiful and exciting car.

Blimey, how sad! And how young! I had a TVR some years ago -an S3C, car was only 2 yrs old when I bought it, I was 24 and it was a dream come true. It went through two clutch slave cylinders in the first month and I was wondering what I had let myself in for - the dealer were great, fixed it quickly each time and I then ears of totally trouble free motoring until I sold it. You could sit indling, rev it hard and see the car rock on it's chasis - superb!

I'll raise a beer for him this evening

When he just started getting involved , Gerry Marshall had to take me to PW ' S House to get the check signed to buy back my MK 2 a......thoroughly interesting trip from BarMoCo to Elstree.............truly involved in every aspect in those days .

I owned (& did a bit of racing in) a TVR from '69-'76 & had an amazing test ride in a 7-litre V8 Tuscan driven by Gerry Marshall from John Britten's place in Arkley - 'hairiest' car journey I've ever had on public roads !

Met Peter W a couple of times before he took over at TVR (when it was run by Martin & Arthur Lilley) - sad news.

Oh dear , serious bad brain fade ................it was Martin Lilley ! The ride with Marshall was never to be forgotten however!

Sad news indeed. You have to admire someone who turned a design into reality from a drawing on the back of a fag packet. I could never quite bring myself to buy a TVR because of all the reliability stories but I came close at least once.

Brendan could tell you how the company was transformed by Mr Wheeler because he worked at the factory for a time and actually knew the man.

And without him (Peter not Brendan) where are TVR now.

- I had a V8 Cerbera - never broke down, loved every minute of owning it, most awesome car I ever had - sad loss indeed and as you say Mike, where are they now without him
