Tyre pressure?

Very simple question, but what pressure do people normally run their tyres at? I'm specifically thinking about my 356A. Does 22/ 24 psi sound about right?

Simon,

It depends to some extent on what tyres you are running

Porsche recommended pressures (in the day) for an `A` were

Sport Tyres
Country Roads – 18 & 23
High Speed - 21.5 & 25.5

Supersport Tyres
Country Roads – 17 & 21.5
High Speed – 20 & 24

Varying the tyre pressures will alter the handling of the car so try all the combinations up to 26 / 30 and pick the combination where you feel comfortable and like the handling

Personally, I use 26 / 28 on Michelin tyres

Thanks for the info Mike. I'm driving down to Goodwood tomorrow morning so will try a new combo and see how it goes...

Simon,

Hope the tyre pressures worked out okay. I went to Goodwood yesterday together with one of my sons in his Boxster. A nice day took a few photos of some stunning BSA Gold stars and one of a very nice Ruby Red 356A with more than a few DDK stickers on it. Now didn't meet the owner, but guess it was yours?? I like the gaps on your car they look original.

There were a couple of Chesils there also. Should have taken mine but thats always the way.

Hi Roy - yep, that was me! Thanks for the kind words on the car. I bought it from KK a couple of years ago and one of the things that attracted me was the original feel to the car. It seems to be all original panels and not had any nasty stories.

Was a very good morning down there I thought - I've never had a bike, but have always had a real interest in the classic bikes. There was a lot of very lovely bikes there - I'm going to try and post some pics tomorrow on General Chat, including some BSAs. I'm not sure what models they are, i just know I liked them and want one!!! Did you see the nice Triumph in the pit lane with the Union Jack and Stars & Stripes flag on the petrol tank- thought that was superb. Got chatting to the owner, all work done in San Diego. Lovely...

Next months Breakfast Club looks great, but it clashes with 'Hedingham' so I'll be there instead...!

Hi Simon, I thought I saw you as I was walking in... I went at the last minute and didn't get their until 10:00 (v.late for me!) I thought I had your mobile in my phone but it wasn't there and when I went back to the car park I couldn't see your car so thought it couldn't have been you after all!

Simon and Steve,

Saw your Silver "S" Steve or I reckon it was yours it looked super I thought. Simon providing the weather is dry on the 7th June I should also be going to Hedingham. ( If its forcast wet I would have around 80 miles of motorway which with my original wipers would not be a good idea. )

Maybe the older I get the more I like dry roads in the 356. I am sure the car feels the same way as I do its the only thing I have known for 40 years that doesn't answer back when I say no!

I was a biker from my 16th birthday in 1959. So, the British Bikes particulary Norton and BSA still attract me but also a nice Ducati or did you see the small MV Augusta on Sunday?

Steve - I went with my eldest boy (9 yrs old) and one of his school friends, and we were leaving at about 10:30am - but we were hanging round the pit lane and front display from 10am, so you may well have seen me. Are you off to Hedingham in June?

Roy - same here re Hedingham, if it's raining then I'll still be there, but will take the 911 for the same reasons as you mention! 50yr old wipers are not very good

I did see some MV's there - but my bike knowledge is pretty limited I'm afraid, so not sure about model names etc. I know what I like the look of though! When I was a kid I had a big book all about motorbikes which I spent many hours drooling over. So Sunday was great - loved the Laverdas, Moto Guzzi, MV, BSAs and one I hadn't seen before - Matchless? Was right at the front of the pitlane - a trials style bike? Looked fab...!
