While at the technico- classic at Essen, Mike and I both took a fancy to these old alvises:

Both extremely reasonable at 100-120K

Just found this which I think is absolutely gorgeous

but I also like this:-

Does anyone else share this fascination for older cars or is it just a sign I'm getting old.

Part of the appeal is that I suspect you're going to have a lot of fun at ridiculously slow speeds - I remember hearing that James Hunt used to drive an Austin A35 van:-

I am. If I could afford it, I'd take the Ian's dad former Lagonda to the hospital every day!

A fellow DDK-er is also really into his vintage machinery, but then for real. Like racing a bugatti 35 and then trundling home, gentleman stylee....

Hi All
do a search for Pilatus P2 as I don't know how to do a link for it there is one for sale in Switzerland for one hundred and fifteen thousand euro's and I would rather have it than an RS I am afraid to say, after all it does have an aircooled V12 ans lots of polished aluminium, Bill

I think Mark and I are more the gauntlet type, we'll leave the string backs to the Jaguar drivers, along with their pringle sweaters.............

Now that's my passion - things with wings, and I'm not talking about the female products!!

Earlier cars we so much more about styling and panache, even the racing cars were beautiful.

Have to say I love the earlier cars too, and I'v e noticed that I am getting a lot more interested than I used to be...basically, I'm 40 next year so I guess it's about time! One of the best cars I saw at Goodwood Breakfast Club this month was a 1930's MG, made as a replica of a 'Q' type. It was perfect!!!

Would love to start with an Austin 7 'Ulster' as a more affordable way in! And like you say, enormous fun at 30mph no doubt!

I just got a copy today of a DVD I'd seen before and it doeas a great synopsis of the German carsof this era and famous race footage ...ITs called "Racing Silver" ...Anyone with a passion for 20s 30 and 40 racing cars would love it

This is my kind of thread! I love 1930s sports cars - if I had lots of money, I'd smoke around in a Bugatti 35, and fly where I needed to fly in a Mooney M20. They are the law.
