Public Liability insurance ?

Can any one help ?

Now DDK have a Very smart new Gazebo & upright Banners. i would like to start using them at shows and events but it seems that most show won't let you use a gazebo unless the club has (and can prove it has) public liability insurance.

1) who provides this sort of cover for small clubs ?
2) how much its likely to be ?
3) do i have to do this event by event or can i get a policy that coves it for a season?

Helen, try the Autojumblers Association. They do a years cover. I'm not sure
if they cover car clubs but its worth a phone call. Otherwise I would try
calling some other clubs that regularly attend shows....Triumph, MG, RS Ford,
Audi Quattro spring to mind. Failing that try the insurance companies one see's at shows... Carol Nash, Adrian Flux, Heritage etc.

yes i do tend to agree. especially as most of the places where these shows are held must already have vast public liability insurance in place.

but them the rules

Go on Helen - get them sued - you could even more cars to your fine collection!!

i know its a neccesity these days, but they go too far. I heard a story on the new last year where a bloke who was going to sit in a bath of baked beans for charity in his town centre was stopped from doing so by the local council for not having the appropriate public liability insurance in place! A risk assesment had shown that someone could have slipped on some spilt beans...

I am representing a local authority today who have been sued by a child who fell off a roundabout in a council playground - honestly it is true.

The child's solicitor's costs (on a no win no fee basis) are just over £20,000 - the kid's damages (should she win) are agreed at £2,500

IMO the club might be best served by taking out public liability as in the very worst outrun those organising it on a voluntary basis might still be personally liable. I did this years ago when I set up a local VW club. We joined the confederation of classic car clubs which was a very modest fee and this included public liability. This would easily be recovered from subs...

Benefits are as a ligit club we could then do agreed values etc etc.

I frequently have to buy public liability insurance for exhibiting at shows as, like you say, it has now become mandatory. I normally end up using www.event-assured.com or www.event-insurance-online.com.
For a two day show you can expect to pay between 60 - 70 quid if you take out the minimum insurance of GBP2,000,000.

have you got any contact details for the Confederation of Classic car clubs. ? Googles never heard of them.
