Porsche Certificate of Autenticity/Kardex? Do i need 4 DVLA?

Fingers crossed, i'll be able to pick up my 356 project next weekend - ive been waiting since the beginning of December so im litterally foaming at the mouth for it now (not literally lol)

Ok heres the problem. It dosent have UK plates.

So do i need to get a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity (Kardex) for it, to prove to DVLA? I know I need to MOT on the chassis number, but im preety sure i also need a porche certificate....

I'm giving myself about 6 weeks to get it on the road, so i can have fun this summer, then do a proper job with it over the winter, so if its a long process for this certificate then i better start now...

So if do need one, then how do i go about getting one? Ive got the chassis number (and engine number) but thats it....

Mine is an import from South Africa and when I purchased the car never had the kardex details. It did have all paperwork for UK so I would say that you probably dont need the kardex. I did find out the kardex info from a helpful Porsche employee from South Africa.

I imported from the states last year and when i got the mot, I just went to the dvla office with that and the proof of payment of revenue taxes from your shipper, and the previous owner transfer of ownership document also from the shipper, and they gave me a registration number within 2 days.

ok that sounds a little promiing, im getting no documents whatsoever with this car, so i thought it was a case of having to prove the chassis numbers are correct for the year and that sort of thing...

but it looks like you guys didnt have any trouble, so i wont worry about it too much.

If you have no documentation, all you'll need is a letter from an owners club confirming year of manufacture . If you can't prove year of manufacture you might end up with a Q plate or something

i am no expert but when we came to registering our south african 356c last year. we needed

shipping documentation
customs documentaion
letter of origin from Porsche
MOT certificate
valid insurance

and we had to trailer the car to the DVLA centre for a inspection before they would issue us with our numberplate & road tax disc.

I will have the shipping & customs documents so that is a start, but damn im going to need to prove its year somehow, i've got quite a few books with chassis numbers, i wonder how DVLA would feel about that? Probally not good enough

Which club would you contact? PCGB? This one?

All info will be helpful, definatly dont want the dreaded Q plate!

Strictly, phone your local DVLA office they are very helpful/approchable and will be able to tell you exactly what paperwork you are going to need.
our local office (Nottingham) had a "inspector" who job it is to deal with this sort of thing and she was extremly helpful to us.

The specific requirements can vary from one LVA office to another but unless things have changed recently, you will need a letter from Porsche Cars to prove its date of manufacture - information from books (even those published by Porsche themselves !) won't be accepted.

I have imported several early Porsches from the States & Germany & have only ever dealt with the Wimbledon office but they would not accept a letter from a car club as proof of when the car was built - only a letter on official headed paper - for which Porsche charge over £60...

I think each office must differ ... last car I get registered, a model / marque specific car club letter was all that was needed to prove date of manufacture. As Helen says, contact the local office & see what docs they need

i hope mines ok as I had no docs with mine either.
I got a letter off Porsche Germany/Reading stating year of manufacture and that it was sold to the US, I got this back in 2000.
Bar that, I think they are ok to reg, so long as I can prove the chassis number, which I can now, as it can all be linked into that on the system, and given an age related plate.

thanks for all your help (all of you), i'll go down to my local DVLA office, and see exactly what they will want, then go about getting that stuff

Its looking like i can pick the 356 up either the 6/7th of March or the 13th/14th - im uber excited.

As a start I would drop an email with the VIN and engine numbers to Marc Noack at the Porsche Classic Customer Centre. His email is Marc.Noack@porsche.de

He should be able to tell you when it was manufactured, where it was first delivered to and maybe the options it was ordered with. He certainly gave me all this for my 1975 914, although I realize yours is a lot older! He turned my request around within a couple of days. Let us know how you get on!
