I just sent a copy of the advert to my brother who had a 51 chassis 10964. He bought his, okay it was 42 years ago, but for £110- !!
Bit of an uplift don't you think!
It makes me think our old 52 11789 bought for around a £100 shouldn't have gone to the crusher!
Crazy world or crazy people but even if they got £30,000 and not the £300,000 asking price this still would have been a nice retirement present no doubt if we had kept these cars.( Better than money earning interest?? in banks)
A question! What is the cheapest 356 anyone who reads the forum has bought? When so many wanted only the engines for beach buggies in the 70's it makes you wonder. ( I know in the early seventies the editor of the Porsche club magazine Bill Goodman bought a RHD 55 speedster for £50- sure it needed work but......!!!!)
And when was the last time ( if ever ) you saw a beach buggy on the roads?? Maybe someone has still got one?

There are several in Northern Ireland used for Autotests, including my brother's one - a couple still have 356 engines!roy mawbey wrote: And when was the last time ( if ever ) you saw a beach buggy on the roads?? Maybe someone has still got one?

My Beetle had a Super 75 engine in it in the early 70's - it was rallied, autocrossed, autotested, and driven backwards and forwards to College in Bedfordshire from Antrim for 2 years. Fabulous fun!

Cheers!

They were Cartune Fibreglass wings, made to accept standard 7" light units. With Cibie Biodes in, it was like driving in daylight, after standard Beetle (or 356) lights!

I'm sure all this reminising isn't good for you JW.
Mind saying that, I once bought a very tidy 1967 (I think) beetle with 356 engine fitted, 912 engine on back seat and another 912 engine in pieces, plus some other bits and pieces. Just as we had it loaded up and were leaving the guy brought out some factory workshop manuals and asked if I'd like to take those aswell.
What really is getting to me is that I can't remember what I paid--I think it was either £125 or £250...but I'm sure Mr 904 will remember, over to you Barrie.....
I do remember selling the beetle which was later seen at Sant Pod..
