I thought about soaking my mag throttle bodies in it last weekend having heard that it can be used as a cleaner. However it's a mild acid so I was worried about it stripping some metal or effecting the brass butterflies and spindles. In the end I bottled it.

Anybody done this or could confirm it would be OK?

I had a sneaky feeling that the expensive POR15 I spray all over stuff was in fact just vinegar... now I know!

Most rust removers contain phosphoric acid as the active ingredient ...

Well I'll admit to trying this last year with 25

bottles of Asda smartprice's finest in a plastic box to use as a parts washer - at a staggering 9p a bottle.
Well the garage absolutely stank, and after 3 days of being sat there I ended up with a balck sticky mess and some parts, that although degreased, still had rust on them

Then had to dispose of the bloody black sticky stuff down the drain, which splashed all over me when a) pouring it out and b) when then having to powerwash the plastic box clean. It only cost a couple of quid, but an experiment I wont be trying again in a hurry

Hmm, very interesting. Do we think that perhaps cookie the corvette owner speaks a little bit of bullsh*t or that Asda's vinegar is extremely lacking in the phosporic acid department? If its the latter it does ask the question wtf do they put in instead!

Apparently vinegar is not very good for Brass, I think it removes the zinc and makes the copper brittle or something along those lines?

Vinegar contains acetic acid (diluted to a greateror lesser extent depending on brand) - not the same as phosphoric acid used in proprietary rust treatments...

I prefer it liberally applied over some cockles or mixed in with Mush Peas!
