Hi John, most of the pics taken with my Canon G9, the most fantastic little camera. Couple of the detail pictures, front suspension and so on, done with my 'workhorse' camera, a MKII Canon EOS D1John S wrote:Hi Mike,
I am interested to know what sort of camera gear you're using for all the nice images in your threads, not just this one.

Brendan, hope you made it home in that dodgy motor the other day! At the moment there are plans for 3 different systems on the car, loud, medium and quiet! They all involve different exits and what makes it more difficult is that the prototype car ran with a modified 3 piece rear bumper not the fibreglass one with the cut-outs, that would nave been way too easybjmullan wrote:Forgot to ask you Mike when I saw you but will the cut out in the rear valance for the exhaust be nice and neat or will it be a hacksaw job (which is probably what happened to the original car)?
Sorry I missed you Tim, one of the rare times I wasn't there! You must let me know more about your new project..........TimB wrote:Mike
Down at Neil's yesterday, although I didn't have much time from what I saw the car is looking great. Well done!

Yes Mike, very helpful for someone like me who knows very little what all the different size lenses can do.(not discounting the person pushing the buttons of course)Mike wrote:Hi John, the lens is the EF 24-70mm 2.8 USM a great all round general purpose piece of kit. Hope that is of some help.

If you need a 'spare' Cibie Biode there's one on ebay:

At last I have a moment to update the progress on the car, been working on it really hard over Christmas and New Year but still one step forward, 2 steps back at the moment! The time consuming bit is the searching for parts and then organising the fabrication of the no longer available stuff, luckily I've found someone who is proving fantastic with that fabrication so it's looking good. The down side is that what with Neil Bainbridge being in Oxforshire, the fabricator being in the midlands and other people involved being in the Silverstone area, all in all I've worked out I've done 30,000 over and above my normal milage in under 18 months since the build began, just travelling between them all!
Anyway the latest news is that just as the engine build was due to start we found a problem with the Mahle pistons and liner set I bought last month, so much so that they have had to be returned and now the time scale for the Targa Florio re-run this year looks in jeopardy. The problem is the Mahle set was their 3.0 litre high compression ones which they claim are 10.5:1, thank god we compression tested them before building the engine as they are no where near! After talking to Jerry Woods in the US and with recommendations from Porsche historic racers here, we are now going with Wossner pistons who can supple exactly what we want, so staying with a german forged piston, together with the Mahle cylinders.
In the meantime been working on the cases, the 2.8 RSR ran as a 3.0 liter late in 73, and now due to the fragility of the 7R case the FIA homologated the 930 turbo cases for the car, so that's they way we have gone. They are now ready for assembly having had all the modifications needed done and the gas flowing finished by hand over 3 days during the Xmas hols on the dining room table. The cases have been specially coated with a protective no-friction coating used in the Formula 1 industry that's only 20 microns thick, and I've pictured them below to give you an idea of the detail that will now go into the engine build.

Mike, it looks lovely... but three days!
You are mad.
Well done. We all envy you this one.
We're all mad too, it's just you take it to a whole new level.
The car will be superb.
I hope it doesn't get dusty out there in Sicily.

Simply stunning Mike - what with 30K miles and I would guess thousands of hours, this is one major league project.
