Car/Garage lifts

I'm just having a new house built and went round the part completed shell with my Architect this morning, the garage has been designed for three cars with a higher roof line, initially to allow two hydraulic/electric car lifts to increase my storage to five cars, however on measuring the area with him this morning it dawned on me that if the lifts are slim enough I should be able to get three in a line and store six cars !
Does anyone have knowledge/experience of the best lift mechanisms to buy for both storage capacity and reliability - I don't want a car landing on top of another or any issues with fuctionality !

Any information/contacts would be gratefully received. Additionally does anyone have any experience of using the garage floor covering "click into place" plastic tiling systems ?

These kind of lifts are very popular in the States. There was a rash of inferior product coming out of China that you should be wary of.

While storage lifts are terrific for getting cars up and out of the way they severely limit the type of work you can do on the car. Also, be wary of lifts that are designed for the American market as our cars are typically a much wider wheelbase. My Porsche barely fits on the width due to the narrow track.

My advice would be to obtain one two-post lift for service and storage and four post lifts strictly for storage. Many of the four-post lifts have caster kits available that allow you the flexibility of turning a lift sideways with a car on it and storing two cars under it if they're narrow enough.

They were £1620 all in, delivered to your door, but with the exchange rate against the euro, I now note their ad suggests VAT and delivery extra. Cheque on delivery too!

Easy to assemble and very robust - totally failsafe for the car underneath too.

If buying two or three, I'm sure they'd do you a deal.

As with other systems, both these products have pro's and con's so I think you have to choose whatever suits your particular space and budget. The advantage of the garage-lifts product is that you get 2m clear headroom underneath, which makes it easy to walk under. The Wohr product is very good but you only get 1.6m max underneath so even I would have to stoop
