Colour Mixing, cellulose or 3k etc
I need to have a batch of paint mixed up for my car- its called Aetna Blue ( spelling!) But Im not sure:
a: best way to find a colour match- the only piece of it I can see is welded on the back of the glove box lid in the dash, not easy to take to the paint factors
b: what system- 2k or cellulose. I am thinking of cellulose for personal reasons but I am interested to hear any thoughts ?
Still Looking for a period nardi Horn Button ....anyone?

Don't paint in cellulose!
assuming your factory colour was 6003 Aetnablau, it was probably applied with Gasurit paint and you can get a formula for your local trade paint supplier from this section of the glasurit.com website:
http://www.glasurit.com/COLOR/new-color ... language=1
I think you would need to click on the line 22 formula and then 'next'.
The problem is that they would have to convert this formula to a system they are suppliers for, unless you contact Glasurit themselves and see if they can help.

Gasurit when I priced it was some thing like £500 a ltr
dumped that Idea and bought 10 ltrs of lec*** German Make anyway.. what my mate uses all the time and what we did the 912 burgandy in..
that lot cost trade about £600
as soon as you conveert your losing it .. just call John at Willholt resotration in the US spend $35 and he will send you a colour card.. take to a paint shop to match
my 53 colour Radium Green was a prefect match to Toyota Green from the 80's

912uk is correct on all counts. A paint supplier might be able to use their contacts to get a spray out card painted in Glasurit though, as a comparison for their ICI, PPG or whatever colour card. I agree that a straight conversion would lose it as they would be building from base colours that may well be different but it would be a starting point and the end result is what matters.
APS paints in Newbury (01635 43149) are mixing up 6404 Light Ivory for me and seem to have made it to the finish line.
The best thing is to ask somebody that already has a car in your chosen colour if you can go and hold a spray out card against their wing for comparison.

hi kalvin
could you give a good reason why not to use cellulose. A few people who use this site are home restorers who have limited facilties and money. in my experience cellulose can be very forgiving and you can achieve good results. A friend of mine painted his car with it in his single garage with no extraction and after it was flatted and buffed out looked fantastic.

Actually, I have to humbly apologise for the assumption that the whole world has access to a top of the Range Spray booth with filtered extraction and a full face ventilated space suit to wear.
Now that the penny has dropped, of course anybody using their own garage to spray and wants to live long enough to enjoy the car must use cellulose.
So, a more balanced argument would have been along the lines of - 2 pack is a much stronger product and is more resistant to light and chemicals. Cellulose is far easier to apply and won't burn holes in your lungs.
I'm a bit happier with my 'compare your spray out card' advise though and I myself nipped (280 mile round trip) down to Roger Brays this afternoon to hold my paint card against his door half hour prior to the 6404 'Light Ivory' going onto my dashboard. The good news is that the match was perfect and I can sleep at nights.
