I like the look of the clean alloy.

Can you clear powder coat to protect the alloy finish ?

If yoy want the clean metal look, , then anodising is the only usefully durable finish..

I got the bare control arms and removed parts back, so thought I would close this thread with an updated set of pictures of those parts.

I will continue my Refurbishment thread here ( http://www.ddk-online.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=21787 ) with the cleaning and rebuild information.

Hi Ian, Was Barrie correct? Or David?

Did you just chose to use the alloy arm flanges?

I've just bought a set of alloy trailing arms, but without CV or outer flanges so I'd like to find out if I need to buy anything else.

I did this job last year - you need the hub flanges for alloy arms. They're the same from 74 to 89.

Both Barrie and David probably remember how hard I had to work to find a pair at the time..............

Well done in getting the arms - have you removed the steel ones yet?

I kept the alloy hubs with mine but not yet assembled.

Hi Ian,

I need to source the hubs and some bearings before I start the job. I can't bring myself to pay £50 a pop for the rear wheel bearings when a visually similar one for the steel arms is £20.

You don't happen to know the SKF (or whoever makes them) part number do you? It's stamped in the end of the race. I'll then go down my local bearing stockist and buy them there!

I'll post a few pictures when I get into it.

My bearings 'look' OK but I will of course buy new ones - and yes I thought they seemed very expensive.

I will take a look at the large bearing that I removed and see what numbers are stamped on it - let me know if they can be purchased more cheaply elsewhere - thanks.

I had a reasonable degree of sucess when I changed the bearings in my gearbox. I only had to buy one from Porsche.

Let me know the number and I'll do some digging

The detaisl are not that clear on my bearings, but they are :-

FAG Germany 527243 or 527248 - the 3 or 8 are unclear.
