The 'Maverick' Classic Porsche Forum and Classic Porsche Club for Porsche 356, Aircooled Porsche 911, Porsche 912, Porsche 914 & Porsche Replicas. 'We join for the cars but stay for the people'
There you go Steve - Mark has made you an offer you can`t refuse

I have seen many weird and wonderful ways of fitting 356 motors - personally we have the tail end way up in the air and lift it with a Hi-lift jack
You need 32" (sorry -still Imperial, on this one) of clearance under the Rear Bumper but this is of course is for the jack that we have
Put the engine on the jack and measure how much clearance you need - Will the Jack go up high enough - ?
If not you are going to have to get the motor under under the car and then drop the car down you may need 2 x jacks now
Check before you start and work what problems you may have
We also use High Axle stands which we position on the Torsion Bar tubes -work safe
Leave the Rear Tin off and the Air Filters (Plug or cover up the Carb. Inlets) everything else needs to be fitted - Solex Carbs are a bit tight on the side tin so keep your eye on those
If you changed the engine mounts - The Head of the Bolt on the top of the mount MUST be on the inside of the Bellhousing
I assume that the clutch fingers or the diaphragme face is sitting nice and square and that you aligned the centre plate
Change the Starter Motor Bush in the Bellhousing NOW, if you have not already done it
Lightly lubricate the Input shaft nose where it runs in the Flywheel Nut (I assume that there is no rust on this nose - ?)
I am not joking when I say I have put my back out 3rd physo tonight almost better now.. But the motor bike lift takes the greif out of lifting the engine. it's very stable and lifts from 2" off the ground to like 60+cm's
I find with the motor bike lift it's as low as you can get to the ground for the clearance to go under the rear valance. I have not put a 356 motor in a 356 yet but I have done countless 912's and a number of speedster 356 kits. So i am sure we will be fine..print off Mikes list.
running late.. so will be flying kite on common first and then come over to you.. Unless you want to fly a kite.. I will be in the middle of the cafe on the beach by the amusments and the staute on the common.. either with a red Peter Lynn 2m or a Blue/black and yellow Peter Lynn 4meter with todays wind.. other wise I will be blown into Paulsgrove!!!!
No worries Steve, just glad it went so well. Steve's got the best Garage floor I have ever seen, esp like the modern art.. Por 15 splashes.. worth a fortune..
That por 15 stuff does look way better than I thought .. might have to try some of that stuff......
