Fuch Wheels

Hello

I recently bought a Porsche 912 in February (Rob Winterborne's old car SRR 195F, Red) and have been carrying out some modifications to bring it up to scratch. The next item on my list was to sort out the wheels.

I currently have chrome wheels, which are badly rusted and spoil the look of the car so I was thinking of either stripping them back and having them re-chromed / painted (have spoken to Karmann Konnections about this), or really I wanted to replace them with Fuchs wheels, 5.5" x 15" or 6" x 15".

Having searched around it seems neither of the options are cheap, plus trying to find original fuchs is proving impossible. I therefore have looked at some replicas which I thought would do the job in the mean time and have seen two which look ok. Both are on a companies website called SSP. There are some made by Flat 4 and also some which come painted and already detailed by SSP themselves. Both seem very reasonable and I was wondering if anyone knew of these replicas, and how they good they were?

I appreciate they will not be original, but for me as long as they look good in the mean time I don't really mind, I can buy originals in the future when i have more money.

As replicas go the Flat 4 ones are probably the best out there.

Be very careful. SSP sell the MWS ones which are ready detailed but have very flat spokes and IMO do not look good at all.

I wasn't aware that SSP took Flat 4 ones and detailed them - you would probably need to have them detailed yourself.

I'd still try and push the boat out and go for originals - it's surprising how little difference there is in price by the time you've accounted for everything.

Hi Peter, I agree with everything that Bootsy said. Originals would certainly be best but they are proving a little difficult to find at the moment for what I believe is a realistic price. The MWS wheels are awful and really look different to an original Fuchs. The Flat 4 ones are considerably better and look very close to the originals.

But, I think you'll find that there is a supply problem with the Flat 4 Fuchs at the moment. I know, as I'm looking for a set myself. I've spoken with several stockists and none of them seem to know if/when they'll be arriving.

Just to echo the points from the other guys really. I gurantee if you buy the rep's after a couple of months you'll regret it, try to sell them on Ebay get sod all for them and end up spending over the odds in the end for genuine Fuchs. Stick it out and buy some proper ones.

YOU KNOW IT MAKES SENSE.

Yeah think you are all right. Seems as you all said the flat 4 versions are impossible to get anyway.

Will have to wait and become an ebay watcher it seems.
