356 talk users a first for DDK

Post by 912uk »

Ok I had let one or two people know a while back, but it's time for a change. For a while now a few of us have been testing a new forum based web site for a replacement to 356 talk the email based system. Well it's been approved by the board and is up and running so if your currently a 356 talk user it's time to log on here..

http://www.356registry.com/forum/index.php

You have to unsubscribe from the 356 talk email. But the link below is explains more..

I have had to keep stum on this for the last few months well since in Oz to be fair but Brain has done a great job getting it all sorted and the 356 register board took to it and it's going to make following threads alittle bit easier to follow if you take a break from the Email system. Post pictures to questions and also use the search buttons.. Just like here at DDK.

But don't disapear from DDK will you.. :|

I have to say the 356 reg board are alot easier to work with than PCGB, things get done 8) it's been a nice feeling to be part of shaping something new for the future in the classic Porsche world, so I am letting you guys know first..I kind'a forgot to mention it to PCGB oh well I am sure they will catch up one day

Here's Chucks statement

The 356 Registry's 356Talk email list has been around for nearly 15
years ever since Robin Hansen started it with help from Rick Dill. It
has been a source of invaluable 356 information and camaraderie over the
years for all 356 enthusiasts. From time to time over the past few
years, discussion has occurred about changing the format of this list.
There are some who prefer a bulletin board (BB) forum style while others
prefer the immediacy of the existing email listserv. It was not a matter
of old vs. new tech, instead it was about what worked the best for the
subscribers. Unfortunately in the past, it was not possible to please
both sides on this issue.

However, I am happy to announce that you can now "have it your way".
Thanks to the Herculean efforts of Brian O'Kelly with assistance from
Barry Brisco, the 356 Registry will soon change to a system which will
incorporate a fully featured bulletin board forum with the added
capability to subscribe for email delivery. Therefore, those who want
and have been clamoring for the BB forum system with its ability to post
photos and better organize threads should be ecstatic and those who want
to keep getting email like they have been getting can still choose to do
so with minimal impact. It should be the best of both worlds.

Bill Sampson, our current list monitor, will follow up with details on
how to register for the new forum. He has included a lot of detail for
the sake of those who are unfamiliar with this type of forum as the
registration process will involve a few more steps. Those already
familiar with these types of systems should have no issues. Since you
will be able to choose the delivery method in the new system, I ask that
you please refrain from clogging up the 356Talk list debating which
method is best. It is a personal preference issue and you will have a
choice.

We ask that ALL 356Talk list members IMMEDIATELY register for the new
forum and unsubscribe from the old. We will go through a 30 day
transition period at which time the existing 356Talk listserv will be
shut down and all traffic will be in the new 356Talk BB and listserv
system.

As we move to this new and exciting phase for 356Talk, I would like to
once again acknowledge Robin Hansen and Rick Dill for all the work and
effort they put into the creation and maintenance of the original
356Talk. It has been and will continue to be the best real time
information exchange forum for the 356 enthusiast. All those who utilize
the list owe Robin and Rick a huge debt of gratitude.

Harumph! The end of an era! :|
A tiny bit of the 356 appeal for me lay in the nice old fashioned Pellow-esque email talk list..

(Secretly quite looking forward to seeing how its going to shape up, 356talk was a pain in the bum)

Thanks for the heads up! Is a worldwide 356 registry in the pipeline?

well no really it's the same as usual, the 356 reg inthe US is the main club and all 356 owners should be a member really but it would also be good to have a UK based club for us lot here. It's not on really just saying oh go join their club.. Give me a few more weeks busy at the mo I am building a UK 356 register web site for any one ( I mean ANY one with a 356 you don't need to be in a club ) to list your 356 to get an idea of numbers of 356's in the UK

Grand..I'll watch this space. I see other countries 356 clubs like Australia and Japan having some sort of affiliation with the US 356 Registry and was wondering how it would all pan out..

New board looks good. Registered and posted..

Yes I met up with the Ozy lot and the CEO as they like to be known flew over from East coast to Perth so we meet up for a few beers and chatted 356's.

Poss could be a link I guess with the US club but i am sure FH would like to be the king of the hill.. if we got more 356 owners more active I am sure I could speak to them they are a good lot to work with. Would have to ask Tom if it's some thing we would need or want..

I said to Brian is this it this time   orginaly it was at www.356registry.net/forum and then other web address and until the board said ok you can put it on the back of our name  for a while in the beginning I thought Oh god It's PCGB all over again..

Fellas and gals,

The Aussie 356 Register started with a few people who had the passion and drive to get a separate club up and running. I found the original letter a while ago promoting the "idea" and it brought it all back to me...

It all relied on a network to get the word out....everyone got involved and the rest is 20+ year history.

The Register in Aus is a stand alone entity recognised by the Factory. Even though I am no longer a member I still marvel at their achievements as a Club.

It all started from a small and enthusiastic group who felt the "mainstream" clubs couldn't cater for their 356 needs the same way that a dedicated club could.

BTW I LOVE the new 356 board - great work you testers  . No more "keep your posts to less than 3kb" and "do not post in html" etc etc. Easier to search, read and use than the "list" which in truth drove me crazy...I only posted to the list a few times and resorted to the daily digest because of the email traffic I was receiving from it.
