Shame - but you're absolutely right about the family coming first - you'll never get that time back.

I appreciate I may be late in posting this and I'm not trying to bugger it up for whoever may have got themselves a bargain but I echo what Tim said - these cars seem to be worth so much more when they are finished - a few grand at this stage could come back as a much more valuable car.

However you've still got to sell it even if it's finished so that's no help really

in 10 years time there will still be plenty of cars around for me to spend my time with in the garage when my kids are in there teens and no longer want me around...some things are more important than lumps of metal

A "brave" decision though? A brave decision might instead be telling your wife that you intend to keep the car, while she is in the kitchen cutting up vegetables with a knife in her hands.....

This thread has really hit home with me.

I've just gone through the same thought process.

With my young son, and my wife having given up work recently, we need to make some changes. So the split screen van is going and I'll keep the 912 as a daily driver.

But it's a really tough decision - I sympathise (or should that be empathise?).

You'll just have to get your fix from the ddk, and ride shotgun when you can.

Steve, I managed to miss the fact that you had found a buyer, and it was only on seeing the engine for sale that went back through this thread and saw the news.

I hope the new buyer enjoys finishing your hard work, and am sure that the results will be spectacular.

From experience, I can say that the worst parts of selling a car are the viewings and the physical moving of the car. You usually find once the garage is cleared, and you've got some space / cash / time back, things look a bit brighter.

A word of caution though; when a project has just gone up the road, the first thing you want to do is go and get another one .

Anyway, well done on the sale, and best wishes to you and the family for the future: I take it you'll be hanging around here still?

Just had a "what have I done" moment after sorting out all the bits that go with the car and pushed it back in my garage for the last time, its being collected early tmrw morning. Very sad to see it go but still happy im making the right choice.

Anyway just want to thank you all for your understanding its reassuring that you can all see where im coming from with this sale. I hope the new owner enjoys the car as much as I have building it so far and follows up with the rebuild thread so we can all see the eventual outcome.

Im sure your right about getting another project barry and I have ideas for what id like next albeit it not something as time consuming as what ive just been through. Will be keeping my eye out for a nice STD 2.4 t or E but not for some time yet.
