PCGB Membership

Right, to stir up some topical discussion (and because it's still raining and I have nothing better to do), my membership of PCGB has lapsed, should I renew or not??

Having read of the latest events concerning the Regional Organisers, the attitude of the motorsport section to ordinary members and the general apathy of the Board concerning a number of issues, is it worth being a member any more??

I'd actually re join

£44 sounds a far bit but Porsche Post 12 times a years is worth that alone and it's been getting better recently

yep I will rejoin, like you, if you look past the back biting its not that bad and Porsche Post is quite a good read. I would like to access the forum but it still wont let me in, must be keeping the rif raf out, but one day Ill crack their secret code.

I'll probably rejoin when my membership expires in the summer. I like reading Porsche Post - and there has been more 'classic' orientated stuff recently. Plus I want one of those blue 917 T-shirts!!! I don't post on (or even read) the PCGB forum and haven't been to any of the events yet but don't want to totally exclude the possibility. I love the DDK website - everyone seems really down to earth, friendly and helpful, and because the focus is old Porsches it's always going to be more relevant (and hence a bit of a favourite) but that doesn't mean there isn't room for other clubs or organisations.

I doubt I'll renew mine. I've found no benefit of membership and the glossy is full of adverts, adverts concentrated around london and what's more, exactly the same ads every month, such that you'd expect from a free mag that was funded by advertisers. I've never been to one of their events so I can't comment on that. I suppose if I were more involved with the group I might think differently. However, I personally find it not worth the money. Sorry to disagree you most of you.

Hmmmmmm.............. Not sure about this one.
I don't manage to get along to my region's monthly meetings due to work commitments and general family life. I've been to a couple of events, but that's about it.
The thing is this. The members of my region are really nice and accepting people. I'm sure the other regions are the same. But, it's the suits in charge that really annoy me. From what I can gather, they tend to become elitist when they gain any kind of power, and end up not accepting me and my "replica". It does annoy me, as I am trying to keep my car looking as close to an original as possible, and I truly am a Porsche enthusiast. Maybe, these people of whom I speak are just too old and set in their ways to change their attitudes. Maybe, I'll continue my PCGB membership and then buy a dented, ratty old 924 as a daily driver and turn up to events where they might appreciate my purchase more than my replica!
I'm still undecided.

I plan to renew for two reasons.

1. Porsche Post

2. Free Insurance Valuations for your car.

They dont have any meets near Shrewsbury and I have never been to an event.

But I agree the top level management is out of touch and appear to know little about what we members want.

I'm still a member, although I've just handed my membership to my Dad. Whilst the mag is nicely put together but has little in it of real interest for me.

I have attended the Nurburgring Oldtimer as a PCGB member twice. The secondtime Porsche lost my tickets. The PCGB secretariat were completely useless and no help whatsoever. Oh they did eventually give me Zuffenhausen's classic sections telephone number. They wouldn't give me Steve Kelvin's gsm number - even though he was going to be there.
The first time I attended the review that was written by a certain Mr. Hampton bemoaned the standard of the cars present, and the fact that most of the cars in the public car park we're normal everyday family saloons. Complete elitist claptrap. Needles to say when I wrote to Porsche Post in response pointing this out I didn't receive a reply.

Apart from the valuation I get virtually nothing from the club. That's mainly my fault as I spend so much time outside the UK. DDK suits my needs. Saying that however I think that my Dad will probably get more from it. He's attending his first region meeting this week> So may be he can let us know his first impressions?

So my verdict is....... give your membership to yer Dad :D

I'll keep up my membership . . . because I love all things Porsche. It may be run by old farts, I just avoid them.

BTW, expect to see the quality of early 911 article in the Post decline rapidly . . . as I'm writing it (unless any of you want to write something . . . . perhaps on the virtues of web forums

I renewed this year but I'm probably not going to bother again, maybe if DDK wasn't about then I'd carry on but PCGB doesn't really offer me any benefits, PP is quite poor in my opinion more like a glossy brochure than a magazine and most of the events are open to non members anyway. I find all the anti forum/internet/elitist claptrap off putting as well.

I have just let my membership lapse this month. My region (R13) meets
two hours away from me on a work night, so I've never met them. The other reason is I don't rate Post a very good read. I just don't think I
get any value from it.
