..... What parts are different between pre A and A? Im thinking mostly about the dashboard furniture/lights etc.

Take this car as an example. I know rusty tubs have probably ripped anything of any use off it already, but surely this could be popped out as a pretty wild outlaw if someone decided to take on the bodywork?

Pre A is probably directly proportional to barndor busses/later busses in relation to availability of bits, but surely a '52 in any state is worth saving?

As the swedish drag guy has done a pre A it must be worth saving even if it is the body work mainly.

It could then run later A running gear or even VW items.

The interior could be tidied and then two seats installed and carpets are available so it could be a goer, if you have the inclination.

Rare parts could be sourced whilst enjoying it, if you ever wanted to then make it more 'original' or it could be 'outlawed' and left as is.

Of course if it is saving it from the crusher it is a good thing.

That example is comedy bad, but it is a '52 at the end of the day....

VW stuff is cheap and plentiful compared to porsche stuff. Drop a set of pre '65 bug hubs on the front, wide 5 disc conversion, bug trans swith freeway flyer gearbos, 3000 rpm @75mph, 1776 engine giving 110bhp, all the running gear cheaper than a super 90 engine rebuild....

Am I convincing myself here?

I had a look at the pictures and it really does look like a huge amount of work to create an original car, an outlaw would be the only way to go as finding all the parts would take a huge amount of cash and time.
I remember Delwyn Mallett saying he did his 52 as a le mans replica because of the cost of original parts.
If you had the time and skills it could be an interesting project.

Alot of the expenditure is going to be in the bodywork,Ive nearly completed a '56 A Cab shell that was really bad too,most people would walk away from it,but with new panels and fabricated panels instead of patching and plating they can turn out real nice,its all down to cost.
on the flip side Ive just finished the metalwork on an SC cabriolet that is probably the best rust free shell I have seen,less than 2 weeks work for 1 man!
