Hi I'm Gary and I'm from Whyteleafe in Surrey.

I own a 78 SC Targa, that I bought as a running rebuild project, but has now turned into a complete restoration project.

Despite bills for thousands of pounds in the history file, my 911 needed a full strip down, corrosion was found in the Kidney bowls, battery box, both front wings, rear wings where the inner meets the outer and the floor pan by the accelerator pedal.

The car was originally petrol blue, before transforming itself into bright orange with American Spec head lights and cup mirrors. When the car finally arrives back from the paint shop it will wear a slightly up dated version of Gulf blue that was used on the Ford GT.

Whilst the shell is away the engine is being rebuilt, but that's another story.

Here's a few photos.

Welcome to DDK Gary, even with an IB car. Btw, there is a dedicated forum for us big bumpered cars over at http://www.impactbumpers.com

Now, for someone who has a fairly similar car, i'm amazed to see you have a complete new off-side inner wing?? Jeezus! Who is doing the work?

That's dedication for an SC that some might say is going for peanuts money relative to the value it costs to restore them. Interesting as well that you are going for a non-original colour. The value of your car would be possibly enhanced if and when it would be original, but that is down to personal preference naturally.

And petrol blue.... do you mean minerva blue (code 304)? That is, in my humble opinion, one of the coolest late 70-ties colours Porsche produced....

or was it something like this (no idea on the colour)

Some people ordered whatever they wanted and were willing to pay for it: this is an example of the 1973 Crystal blau (special wishes order and incidentally the same colour of Ferrymans Hot rod which we will see this year?)

on the theme of rare blue colours: Hell Blau metallic

*EDIT* I found petrol blue now (code 376) Mmm cool colour! :)

Anyhow, well done and please keep us updated....

All the best,

Thanks for the welcome, everyone.

Bert, I do occasionally post on Impact Bumpers. Petrol Blue is a dark metallic blue, I did consider Minerva blue at one stage, but then decided on giving the car a retro racer feel with the Gulf Blue. I previously built a MGB GTS replica (Sebring), and it had to be British Racing Green, I feel the same about the 911 it has to be Gulf Blue.

Regarding rebuild costs, I've decided to stop counting. Myself and a mechanic friend have paint stripped, repaired all the bodywork and are part way through the engine rebuild, the engine has had to be sent to a professional machine shop as two case studs had broken off in the crankcase, a previous owner then trusted remedial work to a firm of butchers who managed to wreck both threads.

As to originality, I'm not too hung up on that, so far I have added a front
oil cooler into the front spoiler, removed the outer cover side sills, deleted the huge washer bottle, deleted the rear seats, and replaced the mirrors with early chrome replicas.

Falke.
