Spare tyre straps and Bonnet straps - Information please!

Post by Gary71 »

Hi All,

I have received a request from an Australian owner to make up some bonnet straps and a spare tyre strap for a Pre-A 356, but don't have any details on the parts.

If anyone has an original tyre strap and details of typical period bonnet straps I would really appreciate it. Photos and dimensions would be great.

Once I get the first set made up I'll add these to the list of Porsche straps I can offer at the usual bargain pricing :)

Many thanks and Happy New Year! 8)

Gary,

Tyre Straps - you have to beat the Stoddard Price and also leave room in the pricing for Dealers to stock, make a profit and offer a discount
The quality of the Stoddard strap is good especially after we have distressed it a little to give it some character

Bonnet Straps - The Biggest problem here is that no originals exist that I am aware of - although I did have what purported to be an original set many years ago

Copies of what we think that they were like have been produced by us and other vendors over the years

The Leather part is easy and cheap

The problems are finding the correct German Buckle and more difficult is producing the Pressed Ends for the Straps

To do the job properly both ends need to be a different depth - the strap is single thickness on end and double thickness the other
These parts also need to be polished and anodized - so more work

It is not a 5 minute job and the market is small

With at all said - we would stock them if they are correct, both in detail and price
